Three Beating

Eagles 40
Chiefs 22

The Super Bowl that almost nobody wanted wound up being one of the worst of the 38 I have personally seen, a stunning domination by the Eagles over the 2 time defending champion Chiefs.

I wanted the Chiefs to win this one. One because I hate Eagles fans and wish them nothing but eternal misery, but also I knew how much a Chiefs threepeat would have devastated the Brady fanboys, to see Mahomes do something their messiah never did.

It wasn't to be, and you knew it early. The Eagles outclassed the Chiefs decisively from the start. The Eagles' defense overwhelmed the Chiefs up front, generating instant pressure on Mahomes with nearly every snap. It was like the Tampa game 4 years ago, but worse. The Chiefs had NO offense in the first half.

Their defense was kind of hanging in there. The Eagles got a touchdown, but then were held to a field goal, and Jalen Hurts threw an interception. Sure, it was 10-0, but the Chiefs are always down 10 points in the Super Bowl.

The defining moment that showed this was not going to be the same old Chiefs came when, midway through the 2nd quarter, Mahomes got picked sixed by Cooper DeJean. And this one was all on Mahomes making a horrible throw.

But you still think, look, it's the Chiefs. The game is not over.

But it pretty much ended when Mahomes got picked off inside his own 10 late in the half, and the Eagles quickly cashed in for an astounding 24-0 lead.

There was maybe still a little bit of a thought that the Chiefs could pull a miracle, but no, the Eagles were too damn good, and there was zero drama in the 2nd half.

The Chiefs had just 38 yards of offense deep into the 3rd quarter, and didn't cross the 50 until their last drive of the quarter. The Chiefs! This wasn't the Giants. This was a 17-2 team that had won 9 straight playoff games. It is unthinkable.

The Chiefs put a few in the endzone to make the final look less humiliating, but this was still a complete beatdown.

The Eagles never had to blitz. Saquon Barkley only ran for 57 yards. And they cruised. I mean, are the Eagles just this good? In the divisional, they were one more big Matthew Stafford pass from losing to the Rams. But then, just like in their 2017 title run, their offense became a juggernaut in the last 2 games, this time paired with a crushing defense.

They had the same regular season record as the Vikings.

The discourse around the loss for the Chiefs is already so silly. Mahomes is being talked about like he's a bum. Do people never learn? The Tampa Super Bowl showed how any QB can be destroyed by a terrible OL game.

The Chiefs have played in 7 straight AFCCGs, made it to 5 Super Bowls, and won 3. And before Mahomes is done, those numbers will all likely go up. But the Brady fanboy gatekeepers look for any excuse.

Taking a beating like this does obliterate the Chiefs aura, I think. At least somewhat. But if you think they're going to suddenly fall off the map, you're nuts.
