Lynx Revenge Tour 2025 begins
The Minnesota Lynx begin their 2025 season ready to defend their richly earned 2024 championshi....oh that's right.
The Lynx had their title stolen away from them. It's fact. It happened. Can't do anything about it.
Except use it as fuel for a glorious revenge tour to take the title.
It's happened before. In 2016, the Lynx got screwed late in a finals-deciding game by a blown call, then rebounded the next year to re-take the title.
That's the hope for 2025, that the Lynx take all that bitterness and anger that they have to feel, and use that as motivation.
In 2024, the Lynx were a surprise. Nobody expected them to go so far. So this year they won't be able to sneak up on anybody. They are agreed upon to be one of the 3 or 4 most likely champions. It's them, the Liberty, the Aces, and probably the Fever (you know the league doesn't want Caitlin Clark making another quick playoff exit).
Napheesa Collier has ascended to MVP level status, and she again leads the way. The whole starting 5 is back, and one would hope that continuity is a big benefit.
The bench should be a major factor. I'm of course devastated beyond measure that my gal Dorka Juhasz decided to sit out the year for rest. I'll be okay. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.
The Lynx lost Cecilia Zandalasini in the expansion draft, but replaced her with Karlie Samuelson. Alissa Pili returns for year 2, going to maybe get a chance to play.
Their one big flaw in 2024 was a lack of size, but the return of Jessica Shepard and bringing in Maireme Badiane from France could provide that. Shepard has shown that when healthy she can be very good.
And then there is the biggest x-factor of them all, Diamond Miller. Miller's promising rookie season of 2023 turned into a basically lost 2024, in which she was hurt and then when she wasn't, she got buried deep on the bench. I'm not even sure she played in the finals. But if she can provide real value, that bench could be the best in the league.
I certainly think the Lynx can do it. But this league is only getting tougher. It will take every bit the talent and grit they had last year, and then some.
