Red Sox 8
Twins 5

I wasn't even gonna do a game blog for this one, cause what is there to say about the Twins? They have sunk into oblivion following the all-star break, losing 6 of 9, including two series losses to last place NL teams. It's made it very clear that there is no playoff push coming.

So on Monday, the Twins began the sell-off, shipping Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak (yes he was still in the org) to the Tigers. That closed the book on the horrible Paddack-Pagan trade that we gave up Brent Rooker in. Rooker is an all-star masher for the A's, and no I don't care that he bounced around a couple teams before getting there. And the idiotic Dobnak extension was just a waste of time, as the Twins paid MLB money to a player who barely got above AAA since.

But whatever. Hug Watch continued into Tuesday night's game against Boston.

Paddack was the original starter, and in his.place the Twins called up Pierson Ohl for his major league debut. Always neat to see a debut.

And Ohl's first inning was pretty impressive, as he struck out the side. And Harrison Bader made a highlight reel catch in the 2nd to rob a homerun.
But nothing good with the Twins ever lasts, and the Sox tagged Ohl for 4 runs in the 3rd, including a Trevor Story homerun.

Lucas Giolito was making easy work of the feeble Twins lineup, now even limper with Byron Buxton back on the IL. The only hitter who showed up for the Twins was Brooks Lee, who only got in the game cause Carlos Correa left early with lightheadedness. A night after a walkoff game winner, he drove in all 5 Twins runs, including a pair of 2 run homeruns (one from each side of the plate, a rare feat).

The Sox were never threatened, as they added on runs off the subsequent bullpen arms, including tired retreads Michael Tonkin and Kody Funderburk. The Twins just love their retread bullpen arms. They are not a serious franchise.

The trades will likely continue over the next couple days. And with the calendar about to flip to August, the Twins are about to be left in oblivion with Vikings season approaching, and a Lynx title run.

Maybe I'll still hit up the ballpark for some cheap tickets. One advantage of a tumbling franchise.

  1. I forgot that they traded Dobnak. So really 12 players. And we didn’t get much in return. Champions Club ticket here I come.
