A 39 YEAR LOW

SEAHAWKS 26
VIKINGS 0

I started watching the Vikings in 1987. Lotta ups, lotta downs. But in those 39 seasons, it has never been worse than it is right now.

This trainwreck of a season reached its latest low in Sunday's loss in Seattle, the first time the Vikings have been shutout since 2007.

Strychnine was concussed last week and not cleared to play in this game, so it was showtime for Golden Gopher legend Max Brosmer. Hey, maybe some of the good vibes from the Gophers retaining the axe this weekend would rub off on him.

Nah. I didn't expect Brosmer to be anything, not even better than JJ, but fittingly for this horrid season, he was worse. I mean, we got shutout, so he was obviously terrible. 4 picks, including one of the most comical pick sixes you can ever see.

Brosmer was awful, but at least the Vikings didn't waste the 10th pick in the draft on him, or hand him the franchise without a single moment of genuine competition for the job.

I swear, this was the same damn game again. Vikings defense hangs in there for a while, trying to keep the game somewhat winnable. Offense can't stay on the field, and turns the ball over (5 total today). Even with a UDFA rookie QB and 2/5 of the starting OL out, KOC calls for 2/3 of the offensive plays to be passes. The Vikings entered the 4th quarter with 9 rushing attempts. It's peak tedium to have to keep complaining about this shit.

Sam Darnold faced the team that didn't bring him back. He actually faced a lot of pressure (this was one of the better games all year as far as pass rush) and didn't have big stats, but winning probably felt extra good for him. Seattle is tied for 1st, and tied for the NFC's best record. We're a 4-8 disaster. Darnold is better off.

Justin Jefferson nearly went catchless, was seen very sullen on the bench late in the game, and didn't talk to the media after the game. Justin may be the only player on the roster with the power to effect change, and I hope he uses it. But we are definitely in a reality now where he might make moves to get the hell out of here.

This is as bad as I have ever seen this franchise from the standpoints of entertainment value and hope.

The Burns era led into the consistently good Green era. There were a couple of bad Tice years, but we still had Culpepper and Moss to watch. Even when things were bad with Childress or Frazier, we at least had Adrian Peterson running around, and at least brief hope with T-Jack or Ponder. The Zimmer years were always at least competitive. And even that 2023 mess had Dobbs mania and some Millens silliness.

This is a team with no hope for the near future, and they are grotesque to watch. Our supposed offensive genius HC is overseeing historically awful offense, and it doesn't seem to matter which QB or which other personnel are there. The skill position talent doesn't even have a chance to do anything.

About the only reason to not totally be out on ledge is that the NFL is a league of quick turnarounds. But when a team with serious playoff expectations turns into this, heads they will be rolling.
