Pig of a performance

Iowa 23
Gophers 19

For the first time in a calendar year the Gophers lost a football game.

Kind of saw this one coming. To have that unprecedented hype for that Penn State game, followed by an emotional win, and to then immediately follow that up by going down to Iowa to play a good team in a stadium that the Gophers haven't won in since before a lot of these players were born....you couldn't really devise a more obvious setup for a letdown loss.

And this team was dead flat in the first half. The defense was AWFUL. Couldn't stop the run, couldn't stop the pass, couldn't do anything. The offense was a little more functional, but they couldn't run, and could not sustain drives through the air. The fact they went to the locker room down just 20-6 was a miracle.

This loss sucks, but keep things in perspective. Every Gopher team in my lifetime winds up losing this game by 30 points. They just get run out of the stadium.

They made it a game. They put one in the endzone to start the 2nd half, but the offense went cold again until it was too late.

The game was there to be had, but you dropped 2 touchdowns passes, you missed a couple kicks, you stubbornly favored the run most of the game, and the defense sprung leaks all over the place, you had some bad coaching(never onside kick unless you really have no choice) Not the way to win a road rivalry game.

I'm embarrassed by the vitriol from fans after this loss. Did they actually believe this team was winning a national title? What the hell is wrong with you? The 9-0 record looked title worthy, but nobody credible actually thought this team was gonna finish in the top 4 of the whole country. They would need 3 wins over teams even better than Penn State, and all away from The Bank.

This team still controls its destiny to win the west, and probably go to the Rose Bowl(or some other really good bowl). Beat Northwestern, then you get Wisconsin at home. Win those and you win the west. And then you get drubbed by Ohio State, but who cares? How quickly some fans get so spoiled. If this team finishes 11-2 and goes to Pasadena, who cares that we lost a stupid pig?
