Message Board Classics: 2007 NFL Season
8/11/07--preseason post:
![]()
Now, onto some football, since I went to the Vikings preseason opener last night. I only went cause I had the ticket, and I only had that cause I had to buy one with a ticket to the Packer game.
Anyway, it was a colossal bore, but I found the play of T Jack somewhat encouraging. I'm pulling for the guy, and hope for the best. Bobby Wade looked pretty good too.
As usual I will save my predictions for just before the season, but I will reveal that I think the Patriots will win it all. I am only able to deal with this because I got to see the Steelers and Colts get theirs the last 2 seasons. And there's always that hope that the playboy wannabe Brady will get his knee ligaments shredded at some point.

Season Predictions:
AFC EAST
1. Patriots (14-2)
Yes, sadly I see the dark times returning. Not cause of Moss. He's actually the lone hope. Maybe he'll destroy the team from within. But the Adalius Thomas signing and the other professional receivers have greatly improved this team. Plus, they always get the kind of breaks NO other team gets.
2. Jets (8-8)
I never bought into this team last year, and I don't see them returning to the playoffs. Pennington's unlikely to stay healthy a second straight year.
3. Dolphins (7-9)
Trent Green gives them some stability at QB, but this franchise consistently underachieves.
4. Bills (4-12)
They looked to be inching close to respectability. Then they lose Clements and McGahee. Plus I don't believe in Losman.
AFC NORTH
1. Steelers (11-5)
Last year EVERYTHING went wrong, and they still nearly snuck back into the playoffs. This year with a healthy, stable Big Ben they should get back to the playoffs. Yeah, Tomlin's a rookie coach, but Cowher led the team to a division title in his first year too.
2. Ravens (10-6)
McNair's another year older, but that defense is forever strong, and swapping Lewis for McGahee is gonna help.
3. Bengals (10-6)
This year they should at least stay out of jail long enough to tap into their potential. The defense still isn't enough to make them super bowl contenders though.
4. Browns (5-11)
They're slowly getting there, but no part of the team is exceptional, which gives them no hope in such a strong division.
AFC SOUTH
1. Colts (11-5)
They'll have some hangover, and a couple of their free agent losses will hurt. But a pressure-free Manning will still lead them comfortably to a division title.
2. Jaguars (9-7)
Same old story. Strong defense, unreliable QB play, probably a mix of eye-opening wins and stupefying losses.
3. Texans (7-9)
With Matt Schaub they should finally make a legitimate move towards contention.
4. Titans (6-10)
Vince led em on a nice run last year, but then they lose half his offensive weapons and the defense still stinks.
AFC WEST
1. Chargers (12-4)
Firing Marty for Norv Turner was ludicrous. It won't lead them to a super bowl. But they're still so overloaded with talent that the regular season should be a breeze.
2. Broncos (8-8)
Cutler's still got a LOT to prove as far as I'm concerned.
3. Chiefs (5-11)
Larry Johnson's gonna have to carry it 600 times for them to have any prayer this season.
4. Raiders (3-13)
I went to high school with Lane Kiffin, so I will be rooting for him...fruitlessly, since this franchise is so fucked up that they can't even get the #1 pick signed, and now will have to rely on Culpepper. Ask Miami how that approach works!
NFC EAST
1. Eagles (10-6)
I hesitate to predict much for them because you can't trust that McNabb will stay healthy, and now there's no Garcia. But if he's in there, this team is the class of the division once more.
2. Cowboys (8-8)
Going from Parcells to Wade Phillips is NOT an upgrade in any way. Romo has to get over his playoff blunder, and Owens could destroy this team at any moment.
3. Giants (7-9)
Yeah they've got the talent to be a super bowl contender. But Eli's going backwards and the whole team hates the coach.
4. Redskins (6-10)
I see nothing from Jason Campbell that suggests greatness.
NFC NORTH
1. Bears (11-5)
They'll slip, just like many a center snap through Rex's fingers, but the defense is still a force, and maybe Rex will mature enough to avoid having as many clunkers.
2. Vikings (7-9)
I have a tiny amount of optimism about my purple this year. The defense should be even better than last year with Greenway and James returning. Peterson and Taylor should be a terrific 1-2 punch. It all comes down to Jackson, whose preseason was mediocre. And he still has very little to throw to. But if he does somehow explode into a truly quality QB, there's enough to contend for a wild card.
3. Lions (6-10)
I'd almost buy into their confidence...but they're the Lions.
4. Packers (6-10)
They overachieved last season in their little run. Brandon Jackson's a question, but I've learned NEVER to count on anybody from Nebraska
NFC SOUTH
1. Panthers (10-6)
This team just seems to have an every other year thing about them. Delhomme's playing for his job, and Williams should improve the running game.
2. Saints (10-6)
A talented team, and no fluke, but emotion did play a giant part in their success last year. They're still a playoff team though.
3. Buccaneers (7-9)
Garcia will help them back to respectability, but Gruden's seat is gonna be getting hotter by the week.
4. Falcons (4-12)
Opponents will chew them up like dogs...which Vick will then murder. C'mon, Joey Harrington's their starting QB. Last place is a safe bet.
NFC WEST
1. Rams (10-6) Stephen Jackson's gonna become a superstar. They'd have made some noise last year if they'd snuck into the playoffs. All they need is to wrestle the division from Seattle and they can do something.
2. Seahawks (10-6)
A super bowl contender themselves, since they're unlikely to have their top 2 stars miss a lot of time due to injury again.
3. 49ers (8-8)
Calm down, it's not playoff time yet. I need to see more from Alex Smith first.
4. Cardinals (6-10)
Just like the Lions, on paper they have potential...but they're the Cardinals.

A few week 1 picks:
Oh what the hey, I'll put my week 1 picks in here. Or at least a few.
Colts 34, Saints 27
Vikings 16, Falcons 13...it'll be ugly but I think they can squeeze out an opening win.
Patriots 23, Jets 10...let the misery begin
Seahawks 30, Bucs 13...my survival pick of the week.

Thursday opener:
Opening night:
Kelly Clarkson remains my future wife of course, but this is the football thread!
It's weird that nobody on the planet seems to be picking the Colts to even make the super bowl again (I'm about the only one I've seen even pick em to make the conference title game), but if their defense can play like they did tonight for a whole season they have to be considered serious repeat contenders. They made Drew Brees look foolish.
The game should've been an even bigger rout, had there not been so many drops by Indy receivers. And yes, Manning played like a guy who's not only the best QB in the game, but who will be even better now that he doesn't have the pressure of never winning a super bowl.

Week 1:
VIKINGS 24
FALCONS 3
Gotta like this opener for the purple. Tarvaris Jackson was very average, but that's ok. He doesn't need to be Peyton Manning. The one int wasn't even his fault. He managed the game, as the talking heads like to say.
Adrian Peterson had a fantastic debut (as I rocked my #28 jersey with pride!), so much that it didn't matter Taylor got hurt.
And that defense already looks like a beast! Yes, ok, we know they were up against Joey Harrington, but the Falcons do have some offensive talent. You surrender only 3 points and that's impressive to me. Even the 3 didn't come til the game was kind of in hand. Six sacks is awesome. Two defensive scores is awesome! Jackson's going to steadily improve. He was way better here than in his 2 starts at the end of last season. A favorable schedule lies ahead for the next few weeks, and they look like they could get off to a fast start.
OTHER GAMES:
-GB 16, PHI 13
That idiot return guy from Philly gift-wrapped this one. The Packers have a decent D though.
-SD 14, CHI 3
Bears were impressive on D, but you can't hold em off forever.
-CAR 27, STL 13
Panthers indeed look ready to roll. Um, picked the Rams for the super bowl and now Jackson's a fumbler and Pace may be out for the year! Ooops!
-NE 38, NYJ 14
Whatever. The Jets are even more putrid than I expected.
-DEN 15, BUF 14
Didn't they run Plummer out of the league last year for mediocre showings like this?
-DAL 45, NYG 35
Cowboys in the super bowl? They gave up 35 to a team with no running back.
-DET 36, OAK 21
My boy Lane almost pulled out a win, then they had a Tim Brewster-like 4th quarter.
-HOU 20, KC 3
How BAD are the Chiefs?
-PIT 34, CLE 7
There's my Steelers!
-WASH 16, MIA 13 OT
Miami sucks.
-TEN 13, JAX 10
Yep, good choice on that QB, Jack.
-SEA 20, TB 6
snoozer

Some week 2 picks:
I like Herm Edwards. He got a couple of mediocre Jets teams to not only make the playoffs but win some in the playoffs. He then got a one-man Chiefs team in there last season. He'd win a super bowl if he ever had a team with big talent.
--a few week 2 picks---
-Vikings 17, Lions 10-
Lions haven't beaten them in years. I'll roll with the purple for now.
-Chargers 27, Patriots 24-
Well spank my ass and call me Charlie! You mean the Patriots are CHEATERS??? You mean they aren't the untouchable dynasty everyone with a TV job wanted to tell us they were? Wow, who knew? And I'd bet you last week was FAR from the only time they pulled that. Between this, their classless actions in San Diego last year, and Belichick putting concussion sufferer Ted Johnson back into games, we now have more than enough evidence to wipe away their place as one of the all time teams OR the "class" team of the league. Oh, Chargers win and get revenge.
-Packers 22, Giants 21-
I'll go with the upset here, though with Jared "He Should Eat Subway" Lorenzen at QB probably, is it an upset?
-Ravens 26, Jets 6-
The Ravens are pissed. Good luck Kellen Clemons.

Week 2:
LIONS 20
VIKINGS 17
Well, at least this year it won't take til Halloween to discover how lousy this team is. Tarvaris is awful. Compared to him I'd kill for Rex Grossman, but then again the offensive line decided not to block for him today. He's got some scrambling ability, but not enough to outrun ten unblocked guys.
The game was there to be won. They should've seized it when Kitna was out, but yes, AP was not given the ball enough. Neither was Mewelde Moore, who once again proves that he's a hell of a player when he's allowed to play.
Ugh, its gonna be a long season.
Elsewhere, the biggest winner of today in the NFL? Marty Schottenheimer. Granted, the Patriots probably cheated on this game too, but through 2 games the Norvelous Bolts have been dreadful on offense. Denver's gonna take that division.
Anyway, the Chargers stink. I'm much more impressed by Indy winning a tough road game, and Pittsburgh crushing a Buffalo team playing for a fallen teammate.
I'll skip the rest of the recap. This sports weekend sucked btw. The Vikes stink, the Gophers REALLY stink, the Twins layed down like dogs, and the Red Sox continue to choke the division away. Ah, but at least USC kicked the redneck out of Nebraska. That was awesome!

Another ugly game on the way, could even be a blowout.

Billy boy's got lots of secret video on this divison rival too.

I'm totally off the Charger bandwagon.

If Andre Johnson was healthy I'd go with the upset.

Week 3:
CHIEFS 13
VIKINGS 10
And to think I originally planned to go down to KC this weekend! What a waste it would have been.
Today we learned that as long as Brad Childress is the head coach (which'll likely be 13 more games) this team will NEVER have anything resembling a professional offense. I naively thought that having Holcomb in there instead of T-Jack would spark the offense. But there is no spark, no hope of one ever coming either. All Childress wants to do is have the QB throw 3 yard passes and hope to have repeated sustained drives doing that. I luckily only listened to most of the game, as I enjoyed a nice warm afternoon outside, but I caught the end, which featured the most pathetic 2-minute drill I have EVER SEEN! Yep, you have a minute left, and no timeouts, and you start a drive with 2 straight short passes over the middle. if this team is not going to even TRY to win, why should I care if they lose?
3 games in it's already clear Childress will cement himself this year as a miserable failure as a head coach. This team has already lost 2 incredibly winnable games, and the schedule in the middle of the season is brutal, especially with the Packers resurgence. This team will need a MIRACLE to equal the 6 wins from last season. Zygi better fire Childress the second the season's over. If he thinks this team is having trouble selling tickets NOW, imagine how it'll be if this pathetic loser coach is brought back next season too.
I'll be attending next week's game in my Brett Favre jersey, thank you very much!
Elsewhere...
Yes, Green Bay's pretty good this year, and I'm glad, cause Favre is actually playing good himself for the first time in years, and with no running game at all. Of course, they beat the Chargers, who are in a tailspin. To paraphrase the chant from last night's Gopher game, "Marty's laughing!"
Dallas just destroyed the Bears. Grossman's gotta be benched. The Colts beat Houston, but it's safe to say the Texans are pretty legit.
The Patriots clobbered Buffalo, cause they play twice a year and have lots of secret film stored up. Oh but that's right, the NFL destroyed all that stuff. I really believe that.
Pittsburgh smoked the Niners! The Eagles wore uniforms that were uglier than Fergie and crushed the Lions. Jacksonville beat Denver, who was supposed to play flawlessly w/o Plummer now I thought? Hmmm.
Baltimore held off a furious Kurt Warner rally. If Wisenhunt is even thinking about benching Leinart, he's nuts though. God forbid a guy struggle against one of the best defenses ever!
The Giants won at Washington as I predicted. The only desperate team I picked that didn't win was St. Louis, who is a train wreck. This is gonna be like that year in the mid 90's I picked the Redskins and Oilers to meet in the super bowl and they combined for like 6 wins!
My man Lane Kiffin got his first win! He's definitely got the Raiders playing solid so far. The Jets got their first win, beating lousy Miami.
Seattle beat Cincy, who was let down yet again by their defense. Tim Brewster is apparently the Bengals defensive coordinator.

Week 4:
PACKERS 23
VIKINGS 16
It's not even October just yet, and already the Vikings season is completely, 100% OVER! 1-3 going into the bye, with this having been the easy part of the schedule, with them having blown 3 1-score games in a row, with their offense putrid in ways that no coach can fix, and certainly not an incompetent waste like Brad Childress.
Oh well, I can just go back to rooting for the Packers as I had before Brett became this drama queen about his retirement plans. I was glad I got to see him break the TD record in person, in a Metrodome that was more than 50% Packer fans. He's a great player again, and it's good to see. I'm a fan of his not cause (insert ditzy giggle) he's so cute and sexy, but because his style of play is truly unique and just fun to watch. Even the other great QBs all kind of look the same, like if you put everyone in the same uniform could you tell them apart? The lavishing of worship towards him is a bit much (I'm already dreading Madden next Sunday night) but he's taken a team with a young defense and no running game and gotten them to 4-0, and in a division that is already theirs to lose.
As for the Vikings, enjoy your 2-14 season and all the blackouts, and fire Childress the moment the season is done.
Elsewheres...
Well, I got almost all the games wrong today but I did have the Browns beating Baltimore.
The stunner had to be the Chiefs rolling the PATHETIC Chargers (and ending my survival football season too). I knew firing Marty was an epic blunder, but even I never expected them to fall this far this fast. Their only saving grace is that Denver is not gonna run away with this, and while I'm loving how my man Lane Kiffin has Oakland playing, it's hard to see them going from bottom feeders to playoff contender just yet.
Also sucking more than Jenna Jameson are the Bears. Brian Griese turned out to be, well, Brian Griese, and even that defense is not what it was before. Looks like the super bowl loser curse will continue.
Dallas looks like a pretty complete team, but let's not annoint them just yet. They were a frontrunning team last year too and fell apart the moment things went askew. Plus, pounding the Rams is no accomplishment. I picked them for the super bowl!!!! Of course, I also had the White Sox beating the Mets in the world series, and how'd I do there?![]()
Carolina showed us that Jake Delhomme is actually pretty valuable, as David Carr was smoked by Tampa (who I don't believe in yet). I'm more sold on Seattle.
Ken Wisenhunt got his revenge on Pittsburgh, but his Leinart-Warner switching will backfire eventually.
Miami sucks. heh. The Jets suck. Looks like Houston still sucks, maybe just not AS bad as before.
They could all beat the Vikings. Between them and the Gophers, this is the worst football state in the country this year.

Week 5:
Well, we got our first sign of Packer weakness, as the old Favre returned and cost them the game against the Bears. The awful running game also killed em as they could not hold the ball when they needed to.
The Bears win also put the Vikings officially into last place, a position I do not expect them to relinquish again with Brad Childress as coach.
The cheaters beat up Cleveland. Yawn. The NFL's clear best team, the Colts, crunched Tampa. Indy's roster of wins so far is clearly better than the Patriots. And they won big today w/o Harrison or Addai, with some CFL guy scoring 2 TDs. Pittsburgh bounced back and shut out Seattle, which is also more impressive than anything the cheaters have done. I'm just steamed that the cheating may lead to not only a 16-0 season, but Brady could break the passing TD record of Peyton, and the team could outscore the 1998 Vikings.
Anyway, along with the Bears bouncing back a little (that was more a game given away than one they took), the Chargers at long last woke the hell up and played like they should. Denver could be headed for a fall too. Oakland's actually in 1st right now. No, I don't expect that to last.
The Giants won the battle of NY over the putrid Jets. This could be the oncoming end for Pennington.
Tennessee won ugly, as did Baltimore, as did Houston (2 seconds after I stated confidently that Kris Brown did not have the leg to hit a 57 yarder).
Arizona continued the misery for the Rams. They lost Leinart for the season maybe, which sucks. Everyone loves Kurt, we'll see if he can carry them, and suddenly this looks like a very winnable division.
Washington bombed the Lions, who are all over the freakin map. Carolina may be the screwiest team in the league, 0-2 at home but now 3-0 on the road. The Saints are just woeful, so at least I'm not the only one who picked a winless team for the super bowl.
Jacksonville had one of their great games, which could very easily be followed by an awful game.
Next week the Vikings go to Chicago for their yearly ugly loss, and hopefully Tony Romo takes down the smug cheaters.

Week 6:
VIKINGS 34
BEARS 31
I can't believe I actually saw an honest to god thriller involving the Vikings. I can't believe they actually won in Chicago, which even good teams in this decade have failed miserably to do. I can't believe a Brad Childress offense actually took chances, with more deep throws than the previous 4 games combined.
True, these Bears are not what they were last year, but this was still the best win in the Childress Era. What they do from here is yet to be seen, but at least for one game we got to see what they are capable of.
Adrian Peterson could sit out the remaining 11 games and still be rookie of the year. He is incredible. He had me whooping, and I never whoop at Viking games anymore. I'm still unsure about him being the kick return man, but his last one did set up the winning FG.
Jackson returned from injury and looked respectable, which is all one can hope for. He had a couple maddening plays (one drive died cause he threw rather than running for an easy 1st down), but he made nice throws, none of which landed in Bear hands.
The defense did not play their best, but before they went into that god damn prevent defense (why do teams still employ this strategy???) they only gave up 10 points, and that one TD Winfield slipped on the grass so had he not maybe they don't even get THAT score.
Devin Hester is ridiculous, but at least he only got that one return on em.
This team is not all of a sudden going to the playoffs. They'e already blown 3 winnable games, but this win provides hope for the rest of the season.
Elsewhere...
Yawn. Patriots beat Dallas. It makes me sick how everyone's already just forgotten about the FACT that this team CHEATS! They're gonna go undefeated, probably break the 98 Vikings scoring record, and Brady's gonna break Manning's TD pass record...and those eventualities will be FAR more deserving of an asterisk than anything Barry Bonds has done. At least Bonds was a hall of famer pre-roids. Where were these guys before this all started? Beliprick was a failure of a head coach in Cleveland, Brady was a college backup, and the vast majority of their other key players were castoffs or just average players.
Dallas was the first halfway decent team they've played all year of course, but the Boys have now played 2 straight awful games, so maybe they're not that good after all.
Green Bay won ugly. The Chargers beat up Oakland so maybe they're getting it figured out. Philly won ugly over the dismal Jets. The Saints upset Seattle for win #1. The NFC west might be the worst division in football, which is funny cause a lot of people thought it was the best 6 weeks ago. Arizona now has only Warner, and even he got knocked out as his team lost to Vinny friggin Testaverde!!! Vinny was a rookie when I was in like 3rd grade! And St. Louis is an abomination.
Tampa gutted one out over Tennessee, who lost VY and the game because of that. The Chiefs beat the unbelievably sorry Bengals. What happened to that offense? Cleveland's got an offense now, and they thumped winless Miami. Baltimore won with Boller. Jacksonville crushed Houston, who look poised to return to their usual role of doormats.

Week 7:
COWBOYS 24
VIKINGS 14
One day I hope to be as wise as Brad Childress is.
This man sees beyond the obvious and always does things in an intelligent way. Who else would follow up a 34 point game, during which his "kick ass offense" actually looked competent, by reverting to the exact same offensive strategy that had made his offense look impotent at best through the first 4 games? Who else would venture into a game at Texas Stadium with zero intention of having his QB throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field? Who else would claim week after week that they need to see what the raw QB has in him, only to then never give him any opportunity to show if he can play at the pro level? Who else would take your superstar rookie running back, who has been the toast of the NFL for the last week, and give him a grand total of 12 carries on the road in a game that was close the whole way?
I bow before you, Mr. Childress, in all of your infinite wisdom.
And who else would use a valuable challenge on a goal line play that was clearly not gonna be reversed...and even if it HAD been reversed would've left Dallas on the half yard line? And who else would burn another timeout setting up an obvious field goal, only to then have that field goal both blocked AND returned for a touchdown?
How does this man live among us intellectual inferiors?
Elsewhere...
Yawn. Cheaters cheat some more. Oh, and they run up the score again, but Beliprick makes jokes about it, so hahahahaha!!!! They are the New England Asterisks as far as I'm concerned. Nothing they or any of their players accomplish this year as far as records will be recognized by me. The 98 Vikings will be the all time team scoring leader. Manning will be the TD pass record holder. The 72 Dolphins will be the only undefeated team. END OF STORY!
Well, I was watching my Red Sox triumph and push baseball back towards my favorite sports spot. So I missed most of Steelers-Broncos. Looks like the Steelers are not en elite just yet, but they're still the best of that weak division. I guess Denver isn't done yet.
The Giants won their 5th straight. We'll see. They always start falling apart once the calendar hits November. Seattle demolished the Rams, who are gonna have a harder time getting a win than Miami will.
Washington held off Arizona, cause Wisenhunt got cute on the 2 point conversion. He's been a failure as a head coach so far imo.
Chicago rallied to beat Philadelphia. When you let Brian Griese lead a game winning TD drive you've got problems. I'll be seeing Philly in person next week in what's an elimination game pretty much.
Detroit beat Tampa. I'd expect the Lions to stay in it all year. The Saints won again but weren't exactly scintillating.
The Titans choked their asses off, then the Texans choked THEIR asses off. Ah, the wonders of the prevent defense!
The Bengals woke the hell up and beat the Jets, though if you give up 31 to the Jets you're sorry anyway.
Buffalo beat Baltimore in an upset I picked. Buffalo's the 2nd best team in that division (and they play fair).
Kansas City beat Oakland. KC's horrible but they're in it.
I've got the Jags upsetting the Colts on monday night. And I've got Boston in six.

EAGLES 23
VIKINGS 16
Blehh.
About the only thing unique about this game was that the defense was simply not very good either. Donovan McNabb riddled the secondary, and admittedly there were a few really good catches. But this defense needs to be stellar. They need to score massive touchdowns themselves, cause no Brad Childress-led offense will EVER win games on their own.
Holcomb, Jackson, Bollinger...hell, you could bring Tommy Kramer or Joe Kapp out of the old folks home and they would have just as much of a chance. Once again they don't even try to move the ball down the field. They run AP with seemingly only one play over and over, which is supposed to fool the oppostion??? You'd have thought Childress would've had extra incentive to do well, to show up his old team and former boss Andy Reid.
They now reside at 2-5, and their season is now officially over. They've got the resurgent Chargers in next week (I'm thinking of wearing my LT jersey to the game), then they go to Lambeau. So 2-7 is a virtual certainty.
Elsewhere...
I plan to avoid all hype of next week's Colts-Cheaters matchup. It'll just make me mad.
Oh, Indy played fabulously, rolling the Panthers in Carolina. As for the just astonishingly classless cheaters, they disgust me more and more each week. Throwing deep balls at 38-0 in the 4th? Going for a 4th down in chip shot FG range late in the game? Any analyst or talking head who praises this repeatedly reprehensible behavior loses all credibility with me. This game next week is truly good versus evil, and anyone outside of Boston who roots for the Patriots is a really pathetic football fan!
See? I can't take it. Let's focus on the rest of the league.
The Giants beat Miami over in London, a city that does not give a shit about American football and never will. Just like us in this country do not give a crap about soccer and never will. This is just how it is, Goodell.
The Steelers got back on track and furthered the Bengals misery. The Lions beat the Bears. That might be a playoff team after all, maybe Kitna was right all along.
The Saints have won 3 straight, and their division is very weak so they've got a great chance to get back in the playoffs. Tampa lost at home to something called Quinn Gray. The Rams might never win, I really thought this was their week to get a victory. This doesn't mean I believe in Cleveland.
The Titans won ugly. The Raiders are starting to look like an awful team again after a decent start. The Texans and 49ers each started 2-0 but have collapsed.
The Bills beat the Jets, who are hideous. We may have seen the last of Chad Pennington.
GO RED SOX!!! I knew SOME team called the Sox would win the World Series!

Yeah, the Vikings are not like some awful teams like Miami or Atlanta, where they have basically nothing. But they have to fix their big issues within the next couple years, or this defense will either get too old or leave as free agents (yeah, I'm sure guys like Winfield or Sharper will want to waste their remaining years on this franchise).
I want actual physical harm to come to Beliprick, Brady and the Patriots. Ths bullshit has already ruined the NFL for me. It's making me lose rooting interest in the whole league, cause I know the outcome. I used to get ripped on in the NFL threads for attacking the Patriots in years past, and of couse Spygate has validated everything I used to say about them. I get so furious how that scandal has been so quickly forgotten by everyone. Why am I supposed to believe they're not still cheating? They weren't even punished for it! I wish this were like the NCAA and you could strip titles from them. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, those 3 super bowls rightfully belong to other teams. And already I'm hearing all this "If you don't like it, don't let em score" crap about them running up the score on everybody. That's such a copout. You think the 98 Vikings couldn't have scored even MORE? Or those Rams teams? Of course teams are ALLOWED to keep scoring, but it's an indictment of Beliprick's character that he has his team do this. And then he just refuses to answer questions about it. FUCK YOU BILL!!!! Running up the score on classy men like Joe Gibbs is not going to prove you right. Guys like Lombardi and Landry must be spinning in their graves.
It IS a miserable season, you're right. I'm trying to just follow the rest of the league, and there are things to keep me interested, such as Favre's comeback year or the Steelers or Tony Romo's love life (lucky son of a bitch!).

10/29/07
I would do a victory run through the streets of downtown Minneapolis if the Packers beat New England in the super bowl!
It would actually be worth them making it to the super bowl just to see them defeated in it. or to have the Colts or Chargers or Steelers upset them at home in the playoffs.

Week 9:
THE PETERSONS 35
CHARGERS 17
All I do is witness NFL history. I'm there a month or so ago to see Favre break the TD pass record, and now today I see not only an NFL record 109 yard play but I see the man who may go down as the greatest athlete in the history of this state run for 296 yards, wiping that bastard Jamal Lewis out of the record books.
Running backs are not supposed to be able to single-handedly dominate and control games like this. AP's done it twice in a month! As a rookie! He could sit out the rest of the season and he's the rookie of the year and a pro bowler. Imagine what he could become if he's ever surrounded by an NFL offense!
Oh, I can still rip on Childress. AP's magnificent performance is a condemnation of Chilly's refusal to use AP in these other games. It is now confirmed that that stubbornness cost them at least 2 or 3 wins. Chilly, today did you notice how running AP a lot eased the pressure off of T-Jack and then Bollinger? Both were serviceable.
Both were better than Philip Rivers, who was abominable today. That any QB would struggle against this Viking pass defense is stunning, cause you knew Tomlinson would be shut down. And Winfield wasn't even playing. This game was really not even that competitive. If not for the Cromartie return and a couple turnovers in Charger territory, this would've been an amazing ass kicking.
It shows what this team is capable of. They should be in the playoff hunt, but aren't and won't be. I have little faith they will win at Green Bay next week, or that AP will get that workhorse level of action. But on a day that, to paraphrase Don McLean, the NFL season died, AP provided a welcome respite for the local sporting abyss.
Elsewhere...do we have to?....
Whatever. Cheaters prevail. The good guys lose. At least they didn't just roll over. As Olbermann said, it was the first time Brady's been touched by someone other than a supermodel this season. Up 20-10 midway thru the 4th...it'll never be that possible again this season. Those fucking classless pricks (special merit to Roosevelt Colvin this week) will get everything they want, every record, every undeserved accolade. Nevermind Spygate, which is ongoing no matter what these ostriches say. Never mind that Marvin Harrison was out, or that Sanders and Jackson both got hurt late in the game. I'm sure that made no difference. Never mind the Moss push-offs. I know I looked the other way on that when he was a Viking. I shouldn't have.
Sigh. At least next week is their bye. Hard to run up the score on a bye week.
Hey, how bout them Packers? 7-1, after a comeback win against the Chefs. And yes, Kitna's a prophet, as the Lions are 6-2 after killing Denver. Yep, quite the move getting rid of Jake Plummer. The Broncos have gone downhill remarkably fast since Cutler was installed at QB for no reason.
Dallas is also 7-1, after bashing the Eagles. Reid probably should take time away, cause they aren't a factor anyway.
Washington struggled to beat the Jets. The Saints are definitely back, ripping the Jaguars up for 41. Tampa won ugly, and Carolina lost ugly, so that division is the Saints for the taking again.
Seattle blew it at Cleveland, but they have the weakest divison in the whole league so they're fine. Cleveland's got no shot at the playoffs though cause it's gonna take maybe 11 wins in the AFC to get in. The Titans are 6-2, but I don't know how. The Bills won their 3rd straight, over the pathetic Bengals. Kelly Holcomb could torch that defense.

I see that Don Shula himself said that if the Patriots complete an undefeated season that there should be an asterisk next to their accomplishments.
What's been one of the talking points for the ostriches defending Belichick? That what they did can't have given them any real advantage. Hmm, well last time I checked, Don Shula is the winningest coach in NFL history, coached for like 30 years, and has forgotten more about the profession than guys like Beliprick will ever know. And HE clearly thinks what they did and are still doing has given them a big advantage. And Shula would have a hell of a lot better an idea than idiots like these ESPN guys, most of whom weren't even competent as players.
Good job, Don for speaking up and voicing what we all know.

Week 10:
PACKERS 34
VIKINGS ZERO
What an embarrassment. Though it was not that big a surprise, cause no sane person who has watched the last season and a half of Viking football could have expected this team to actually play at a professional level two straight weeks. As expected, all the things that worked so well against San Diego were not even attempted this week, as future ex-pro football coach Brad Childress resumed his stubborn, infuriating attempt to redefine what it means to be a putrid football team.
Gosh, sure am glad we got Brooks Bollinger in at QB. Oh, but wait, I forgot. In Childress Land, the QB is not allowed to throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field. Why, even if it's say 4th and 10, he must throw a five yard pass to a covered receiver, who is then tackled immediately.
Peterson was fine before getting hurt. When he was laying on the ground, all I was thinking was this franchise is cursed. But he'll be ok. Fact is, the dumbfuck QB gameplan gave him no chance to take over this game like he did last week.
And this week, the defense was also awful, letting something called Ryan Grant rush for 100 yards, and not even trying to disrupt Favre. Now, don't you guys dare blitz, even though it killed the Chargers. And make sure not to cover receivers either.
This is actually a good thing. This game kills their last slim hope of a playoff run. They needed to catch either the Packers or Lions, neither of which is possible. Best they can hope for is finishing ahead of Chicago. But the clear indication that the team quit today, coupled with another non-playoff season, and with blackouts now imminent (although I'll be at the game next week to see my boy Lane Kiffin), means Childress will be GONE!
Elsewhere...
Screwy day, but at least all today's winners won fair and square.
The Chargers held off the Colts, cause Vinatieri blew a short FG. Naturally he wouldn't have missed it with his former team. But Indy's fine, they weren't gettin home field anyway.
Pittsburgh came back to beat the Browns. Big Ben haters can send their formal apologies to him at any time.
Dallas beat the Giants, so we'll see if the G-men fall apart again. The Lions blew an easy one in Arizona. The Saints blew one to the now 1-win Rams. Baltimore is completely horrid now, and almost got shut out by Cincy. Buffalo barely beat Miami, who are still winless. Um, why does NBC think Pats-Bills will be a good game? It's gonna be a 50 point blowout.
Philly kept their hopes alive by beating the Skins. Sexy Rexy came off the bench and won it for da Bears. The Panthers lost at home to the friggin Falcons. John Fox is gonna be fired, I bet. Denver beat KC. The Jaguars won at the Titans as I predicted.

Week 12:
VIKINGS 41
GIANTS 17
Obviously this was unexpected. The Vikings played so great that the stands at the end of the game looked like Target Center will around February. They got Eli Manning booed both off and on to the field.
T-Jack had easily his best game as a pro. His stats were not amazing, but he made good throws, and especially made some terrific runs. They're 5-2 with him starting, and that's not totally a fluke. He's got a long way to go, and I'd still look at bringing in a new QB next year, but at least there's something there.
Taylor only ran ok. 30 carries, 70 yards is not special. But the Vikes won this by doing the things they usually don't: throw the ball well, and defend it well. 3 picks run back for TDs, and almost all 4 were. Lots of good pass rush. Ben Leber was a beast all day.
They've brought themselves back to a position that at least could make December relevant. They are a game out of the wild card, and host collapsing Detroit next week. Win and it's on. Lose and it's officially over. No sense in analyzing the playoff race til next Sunday night then.
Elsewhere...
Cheaters prevail again. But Philly at least hung tough and showed that opponents need not roll over and die (hey there, Buffalo). Maybe some team will take that newfound realization and run with it. They cheat every week, but they are beatable, and frankly are not very good at all on defense or running. And hopefully Brady gets his knees torn up.
Moving up:
-Jaguars: They look like a playoff lock, and they could catch Indy.
-Chargers: Dominant win over Baltimore, and now a game up on Denver.
-Browns: They're getting better as the season goes on.
-Buccaneers: Looks like the south is theirs to run away with.
-Seahawks: Getting all the breaks.
Moving down:
-Broncos: Puked all over themselves in the 4th quarter, and it may have ended their season
-Cardinals: Typical for this franchise, they have a shot to put themselves in prime playoff position...and give up 37 at home to the 49ers!
-Titans: Cincy may have been due, but to go down 35-6 gives em 3 straight losses.

Week 13:
VIKINGS 42
LIONS 10
This was the key game. A loss meant the rest of the season was indisputably irrelevant. But now, with a dominating win over the admittedly collapsing Lions, the Vikings find themselves improbably in the thick of the wild card race.
The key has been T-Jack, no question about it. He's starting to really get it. He played a fantastic game sunday, making great throws (save for one meaningless int), and making some great scrambles too. He's doing exactly what he needs to do. If he keeps this up, then there's no need to seek out a new QB for next year (although no matter what they need a more capable backup than Holcomb or Bollinger).
AP and Chester are the best running duo in the league. There's still an outside chance both could top 1,000 yards, which is unheard of in the NFL. Sidney Rice is becoming a very good receiver. The defense suddenly knows how to pressure the passer. Chilly is calling trick plays. My god, he went all Belichick in this one and ran a fake FG and a halfback pass up 42-10!![]()
This was unfathomable in September, when they did not even TRY to run a competent NFL offense. Now they've run up 40 points in 2 straight weeks for the first time since the great 98 team.
In the playoff chase, they're tied with Detroit and Arizona, but the Lions are on the way out. And Arizona lost to the 49ers, and are generally just not a trustworthy team. If the Vikings handle their business the next 3 weeks, they should head into the finale at Denver with a great chance to sneak in as the last wild card.

Well, the Monday night game just ended. I won't rant. That game, specifically the last drive, told you all you need to know about what that team truly is. And it proved that the football gods just are not going to deliver justice at any point this whole season. I won't even allude to that classless team again unless the gods change their minds. Its over.
Onto non-cheating teams...well, speaking of cheating, two teams were flat out jobbed Sunday:
1. Cleveland. Stevie Wonder could tell that was a force out. And of course, that undeserved win for Arizona could cost the Vikes down the line.
2. Washington. Um, ok, if the 2 timeout rule is real, then how come we see it done ALL THE TIME without a penalty called? Jesus, Gibbs himself was told he could do it by the one ref. i know that was Gibbs saying it, but I'd trust Gibbs' word. I'm no fan of freezing kickers, but I've seen double timeouts called many times before, and I don't remember it ever being a 15 yard penalty.
The Colts held strong and beat Jacksonville. I thought the Jags would spring the upset, but we're seeing just how good and tough Indy is.
The Chargers have basically clinched the west, almost by default, as Denver puked all over themselves again. Somewhere Jake Plummer is smiling, cause it's been all bad since they ran him out of town for Cutler.
Pittsburgh beat Cincy in the slop. The Titans got a badly needed win and tied Cleveland.
The Saints really blew their whole season, and handed the division to Tampa Bay. Seattle beat Philly, and we learned that AJ Feeley is not as good as McNabb. Gee, really?
The Bears let Eli "Not Much Of A Man" Ning off the hook.
And the Dolphins were crushed in what was easily their best chance left to win a game. They could maybe beat the Ravens or Bengals at home, but I dunno.
Oh, and fuck LSU and the Buckeyes. GO HAWAII!! They win the Sugar Bowl and they're my vote for #1, hands down.

Week 14:
VIKINGS 27
49ERS 7
And this one was the most improbable of all. You take away Taylor's long TD and they couldn't run the ball at all. AP was crushed, eliminating any chance of the rookie rushing record.
But they couldn't run at all and yet they still won convincingly, and T-Jack played another terrific game. There's no question this turnaround only became possible once he started playing this well. I know at 3-6 it looked bleak for him and the team, but now he looks like a legitimate QB, and the Vikings have actually improved on their record from last season. I guess Childress is earning himself a 3rd season as coach.
The playoffs look very possible now, especially since basically everything this week went the Vikings way. Dallas rallied to beat the Lions, who are now gonna be just a broken team. And Seattle pounded Arizona, who fell to 6-7 as well. The Giants beat Philly, and that put the Eagles 2 games back of the Vikes, which is big cause they beat em head to head. The Saints could still be a threat, but now Bush might be done for the year. Even the 6-7 Skins lost their QB.
Fact is, anything less than a playoff berth NOW will be a major disappointment, cause they have 2 very winnable games at home, before a potentially hard finale at Denver. But THAT game could matter less anyway since it's an AFC opponent and it won't mess with tiebreakers.
Elsewhere...in a cheater free league...
Packers clinched the north by crushing Oakland. Dallas clinched the east. Seattle clinched the west. Tampa lost but it'll take a miracle for them to flop. And the Giants are pretty secure at #5.
Indy is bombing the Ravens right now!
And they aren't needing a littany of blown calls by officials to do it. San Diego rallied to pretty much put the west away. The Titans fell a game back of the Browns. And now Buffalo is still hanging in there, after they crushed the pride-less Dolphins.

Week 15 (Sunday):
On the day that we learned that the Patriot fans are just as big a bunch of pathetic, classless pieces of shit as everyone on the team they root for are (chucking snowballs and iceballs at the Jets sidelines...SO mature), where we learned once more that the football gods of justice are out to lunch until apparantly 2008, there were at least some good things going on elsewhere in the league.
Brett Favre broke Marino's passing yardage record (nyah nyah, I saw the cooler record broken!), and the Pack are now in contention for home field, after Jessica Simpson put the ditzy blonde curse onto Romo and led him to 3 picks, a bad thumb, and a loss to Philly. I too have been cursed by a ditzy blonde in the past, so I have sympathy for Tony.
Jess was lookin hot, so it's not all bad for him. At least that one makes sense. Not like Adriana Lima dating Marko Jaric!!???!!! Green Bay's gonna get home field too, I think, cause they'll win out and Dallas could lose either of their last 2.
The wild card mess is unclear as to how today helped the Vikings. They're in big trouble if the Bears beat em tomorrow, cause the Saints and Skins are right there. But now the Giants have not clinched yet, and have at Buffalo and home to the cheaters. Oh god help me if I have to root for the cheaters in week 17! Next week's NBC game is huge though, and at least I'll be AT it so I need not deal with NBC's awful signal for that one.
Seattle stumbled, while Tampa blew the doors off Atlanta. Bobby Petrino's a fucking dick, by the way.
Over in the AFC, the Colts clinched the top legit spot. The Chargers clinched the west, bombing the absolutely mailing it in Lions. The Jaguars, as I predicted, went into Pittsburgh and won. The Steelers are fine for the playoffs, but I could see them losing the division. Big Ben was gutty though, as he s a QB who actually has to fight through injuries and adversity unlike the golden boy.
Cleveland beat Buffalo in one of the best snow games of the last 10 years! I love watching snow games!
The Titans stayed alive by beating KC.
MIAMI WINS!!! MIAMI WINS!!! OMG!!! Sorry, I let their drunk ass announcers take over my post for a moment. I did pick Miami to win though. The Ravens just fell apart this season, and after the refs stole that game against the cheaters they had nothing left. Miami will beat Cincy in the finale too.
MNF prediction: Vikings 27-10. All the happy feelings generated over the last few weeks will be nuked if they let Kyle friggin Orton come into the dome and screw up their playoff chances.

If the Vikes do indeed go on to the playoffs, you can thank Lovie Smith for it. Cause there isn't a chance in hell they win last night if the Bears had not started Kyle Orton at QB.
The Vikes were pretty damn bad on offense. I'm not even that worried about T-Jack. He had a couple bad picks, but one wasn't his fault, and just eyeing him you could see this was a better player than the one who stunk it up earlier in the season. At that point he'd have never made ANY plays to offset the bad ones.
The worriesome thing is the fact that AP seems to have hit "the wall" that they always talk about. Yeah he's been hurt too, but his last 2 games he's done very little. I mean, 70 and 2 scores isn't bad,and maybe he set the bar so high already that an average game seems worse than it is, but fact is this team NEEDS AP to be exceptional.
The defense was great though, and bailed them out. I don't know that they would have done that w/o Orton behind center. The Bears have no running backs, and they had their 3rd stringer. No defense worth a damn doesn't dominate that game.
They will need a far better performance to beat Washington. The Skins are a much better team than the Bears and are playing better. If the Vikes win and if Philly upsets the Saints (possible) the Vikes are in. They lose and it's tough, although the Giants could easily lose at Buffalo. We could conceivably end up with the Vikes, Giants, Skins and Saints ALL 9-7. And I dunno what the hell happens then.

VIKINGS 21
Bah humbug!![]()
The 2007 Vikings may go down as the biggest tease in franchise history. That win streak fooled me, and fooled many others into thinking they could not only make the playoffs, but be a force IN the playoffs.
How wrong we all were.
When it has mattered the most, as the games have gotten more meaningful, we have seen Brad Childress revert back to the clueless idiot whose bumbling game plans cost them easily winnable games early in the season. We have seen Tavaris Jackson go all Rex Grossman, to the point that Viking fans will wisely never trust him again. And we have seen Adrian Peterson hit the rookie wall in a big, big way. Then last night, with a playoff berth a win away, even the pro bowl-stacked defense let them down.
The Redskins had this game almost from the start. Once Jackson got picked on his first pass I think deep down we all knew. Those who didn't yet surely did when the Vikes held on 4th and goal only to turn around and get safetied. After that it was Todd freakin Collins throwing all over the field, and Portis gashing the vaunted run D.
Meanwhile, what did the Vikings do? NOTHING! Brad Childress's insane stubborness, his refusal to ever make adjustments either before or during games, was never more apparent. They did not call a screen pass til the first play of the 4th quarter. Every running play was EXACTLY the same. When Jackson wasn't getting picked, he just stood there and got hurried. Chilly apparently did not notice that teams have figured out a way to stop AP. But just as last year he never adjusted once teams learned they could throw all over the Vikings, he has done nothing to counteract. Jesus, they weren't even running a quick offense in the 4th, down big. they kept huddling up after every play. Hmm, sound familiar? Like something the Eagles did in that super bowl?
Washington is the better team. They play smart, and obviously have a great coach. Plus they simply deserve the playoff berth. Not just cause of the Taylor thing, but they were robbed of that Buffalo game so by all rights they shoulda come in last night at 8-6. They'll get in. Dallas will barely even try next week, and it does not matter since the Vikes will lose at Denver. I'll wait til then to do the postmortem on this season
Anyway...
Amid the loss was a show of hope. During the halftime highlights, when they showed a certain team beating Miami, the dome erupted in a rather loud crescendo of boos. This made me feel good. The league and all the talking heads whose livelihood depends on the NFL have ignored the truth, but now I see that us fans DO understand. The real fans out there get that what is taking place is an absolute travesty for the NFL, and all of sports. This will scar the league forever, certainly in my eyes. There will be records out there that will be a constant reminder of what was done. This makes the baseball steroids scandal look like small potatoes. But there's a segment of fans who will always see Ruth or Aaron as the home run champ, and Bonds's record as phony. What's happening here though goes beyond personal records. 3 super bowls have already been literally stolen, with a 4th to come and god help us probably more after that. One day this sham will end (obviously the last 2 years teams were able to overcome it from time to time), but things will never be the same.
-----------
Sorry, I said no more ranting, but I had to.
In other games, The Eagles did their part and beat the Saints, who need a miracle now. The Jags and Giants got in. Cleveland blew a chance to get in, but could still make it. The Titans play at Indy, and the Colts won't just quit.
The Packers got creamed by Chicago, costing them home field. Nice punting game.
The Chargers kept rolling. Seattle bounced back. I could see them making an upset super bowl run.

In response to a post questioning my Patriots hate:
If they lost, any of these ways would be fine with me. I just hate that all these milestones and records are going to be stolen by a collection of classless cheaters.
As for saying they cheated in their 3 super bowls, well, obviously they are cheaters, and its a proven fact. And there's no chance in hell that the opening game this season was the first time they have ever cheated. The only reason they got caught is cause Mangini knew about it, and how do you suppose he knew? He had been a part of it. And only a naive fool would believe they're not still doing this. Sure they got a little fine and lost a draft pick, but what franchise wouldn't forfeit a draft pick and some money if it meant an easy ride to a super bowl?
It's akin to the complaints about Bonds. You can't say for sure which of his home runs were caused by his steroid use, but each and every one has to be brought into question. And when a college backup QB, a previously failed pro coach, and a collection of mostly castoffs and average veterans suddenly becomes this "dynasty", well, that's more than enough suspicion for me.
And even Don Shula, who knows more about coaching than just about anybody, called them out on it. Even if I'd been wavering, his indictment of that team would've put me over the top.
They aren't undefeated cause of the cheating entirely. They've also received every conceivable break. Half the Colts starting defense got hurt in the 4th quarter of their matchup. And the refs gave them the Baltimore game in a disgusting display of biased officiating. Put it all together and we have a 19-0 team that in my eyes and the eyes of many will always be a complete and utter fraud.
But it's only 3 months til baseball season starts.

BRONCOS 22
VIKINGS 19 OT
and
REDSKINS 27
COWBOYS 6
Oh well, this was the expected result anyway. Once the Vikes choked like dogs last week we all knew it was over, and unlike so many I did not even pick them to beat Denver.
I was sick most of the day, so I was watching the Vikings demise in spurts, and was in bed with a fucking migraine when it ended, but I got the gist.
Childress again made NO adjustments to combat the moves teams have made to shut down AP. So again he got shut down, and for some reason was benched to start the game. They love to pat themselves on the back for their big rally, and T-Jack did make some good plays that I saw, but with the season on the line they again came out and screwed up. Taylor decides throwing the ball at the pylon equals a TD. Troy Williamson ends his illustrious Viking career in style.
So, a thud of an ending to a true up and down season. This team looked like it might win 3 games early on, then looked like a playoff threat late, only to play its worst in the games that mattered most. Only Kyle Orton kept them from ending with 3 losses. I'd like to say they hold a lot of potential for '08, but I can't. Chilly seems to have no idea how to consistently run an offense, or to adjust to what teams do. AP went from rookie sensation to mediocrity in the final games. The defense cracked these last 2 games too.
Year three will mark the end of Brad Childress's coaching career.
Overall a blah week 17. The Titans get in over the Browns, but only cause the Colts played Jim Sorgi. The Steelers surrendered the 3 seed to San Diego. Half the teams didn't play their starters.
Houston and Arizona finished 8-8, as did Philly. The Rams finished 3-13, the worst record ever for a super bowl pick of mine. Linehan should get fired just for making me look bad. Miami winds up a Stover miss from 0-16.
And now we get to enjoy the playoffs, where classy guys like Vince Wolfork will win a ring.
THIS WAS THE WORST REGULAR SEASON IN NFL HISTORY. Nothing but misery.

Wild Card Playoffs:
SEAHAWKS 35, REDSKINS 14
I didn't see much of that game, really just some of the 4th quarter. I do know it was closer than the score. I also know the Vikings would have lost by that score and it would've been accurate.
JAGUARS 31, STEELERS 29
The Steelers were gutty. Big Ben was dismal in the 1st half, and the offensive line was horrible throughout, but he got them back in the lead. Then the Jags got em at the end just like the last time. Honestly, in a way I'm almost glad the Steelers lost, cause now I don't have to see them fall again to the cheaters.
GIANTS 24, YUCKANEERS 14
This game was very boring. Eli Manning sort of gets a monkey off his back by winning a playoff game, but it had more to do with a medicore, overachieving Bucs team melting down. The Bucs offensive line decided they were not going to protect Garcia at any time during the game. This is why during December I was hoping the Vikes would play Tampa if they made it in.
CHARGERS 17, TITANS 6
Marty's still the better coach. I'm glad the Chargers won, cause now at least the cheaters will have to face two strong teams to make the super bowl. The Titans were big time overachievers, and to even play it close for a half was more than I expected. It shows how good a coach Jeff Fisher is.

Divisional Playoffs:
PACKERS 42, SEAHAWKS 20
An instant classic, due to the snow and the superb play by Brett Favre, the TRUE MVP of the season! I missed the first quarter and a half, but I know Seattle had it early and then the snows came and it was over. Funny, that used to only happen to a certain team of cheaters! Seattle, who I picked to win the game, melted down in the snow, and Grant redeemed himself with 200 yards. Now I sort of pull for the Giants, cause I want another Lambeau game.
CHEATERS 31*, JAGUARS 20
I prayed to the football gods before the game. THEY DO NOT CARE! I watched almost none of the game, though I did see that hitting Brady late at all is a penalty but hitting Garrard late with TWO guys is perfectly fine.
Ugh, thank god this nightmare is over after 2 more games, although it's all set up for the gauntlet of pain. Yes I must see them illegally beat the Colts and Green Bay.
Pitchers and catchers report in a little over a month, thank god!!!

CHARGERS 28, COLTS 24
Well, the gauntlet of pain is lessened by this. The Colts season of being hobbled and overcoming it caught up to them. Harrison came back but was worthless. Sanders got hurt. Addai got hurt, but then Keith got hurt TOO so Addai had to come back in. Then the Colts offensive line imploded, and Manning was the victim of 2 picks that were the fault of his receivers. It just was not their day.
The Chargers deserved the win. Before he got hurt Rivers played great. Vincent Jackson is becoming a superstar. Michael Turner is probably the best #2 back in the league, with the possible exception of Chester Taylor. Sproles is the fastest guy I've ever seen. And Indy let Billy Volek lead a game winning drive. I hope Dungy does not retire, cause there's no reason this team can't be the best "playing fair" team next year. And oh well, at least I won't have to see the Colts lose to the Hatriots. But of course San Diego will go into that game with Rivers, Gates and LT all hobbled.
GIANTS 21, COWBOYS 17
Not a huge surprise really. I had the score the same, just with Dallas winning. Here too the losing QB was let down big time by an offensive line that stopped blocking and receivers who stopped catching. Romo made a couple bonehead plays too. Honestly, only media hype makes him such an elite QB. He's good but people have been overpraising him for 2 years! Eli Manning on the other hand is improving. He too has been misrepresented. He's been a solid QB but in NY they only want to rip on everybody.
So now we get an NFC championship at Lambeau Field. I will pray to the football gods all week long for a miracle Packers-Chargers super bowl. I won't get it, but I can get behind the idea of an upcoming super bowl where every human with a soul will be pulling for Green Bay over the CHEATERS! Good versus evil will have never been so clearly defined.

Please, somebody just take a god damn gun and shoot me!!!
I've experienced some miserable super bowls, but the championship game misery has never been two-fold. Never had both games just done me in entirely. I know there are people who are fine with any matchup. I'm not one of them. For me now, this NFL season has officially become a disaster, as the one storyline that emerged as a bright spot amidst the cheating towards history, crashed and burned in a way that proves that the football gods are in fact SATAN!!!!
Lets go chronologically.
I actually watched much of the AFC championship. All season I'd done all I could to avoid the cheaters and their games. I chose not to today, and so I witnessed Norv Turner prove himself an abomination of a head coach, and hand the AFC title to a Hatriot team that was as lousy as they've been all season.
Aside from his terrible play calls down in the red zone, there was his ASININE decision to not only start Rivers, but to keep him out there when it was obvious on the very 1st drive that he COULD NOT MOVE!!! The guy could not plant his leg on throws, and he could not make even the smallest steps to avoid the pass rush. Volek should have been in there in the 1st quarter, and if he HAD been I'm quite certain this FRAUDULENT undefeated season would have been no more. Norv Turner should be FIRED!!! Hey, Marty went 14-2 and lost in the playoffs on flukey plays and bad luck, NOT horrible decisions he made.
It's too bad cause the defense that Turner has no control over made the game winnable. We learned yet again that anytime Joe Monta...er, Tom Brady is pressured in the least, he becomes a complete mediocrity, who DOES make bad throws and DOES throw interceptions. It wasn't until that last clock killing drive that they just gave up.
Oh but wait, the misery had just begun.
Over in Lambeau, I had a bad feeling very early on (this kind of season will do that to me). Green Bay played like an immature team scared not only of the cold weather, but of the moment at hand. Al Harris...um, is he actually going to receive a game check for his performance tonight? That was one of the worst games I've ever seen a corner have, as if he was unaware that Plaxico Burress is actually a pretty damn good receiver. Add to that a littany of missed tackles, a couple of dropped interceptions (one of course by choking boy Harris), an inexcusable inability to grab a goal line fumble (plus the fumbled punt they couldn't get) and some stupid penalities, and this was a horrible game defensively.
Offensively, I don't know what their plan seemed to be. Ryan Grant just went for 200 yards, and they barely even tried to run him. Of course, Grant screwed up too, at one point inexplicably running directly into a tackle, negating what woulda been a big screen pass.
And then, in the ultimate coda on a season that crushes my football fandom, I have to see Brett Favre, and his record breaking season, his career resurrecting season, go up in flames in a way that eerily mirrored the 2003 playoffs. That year a team of destiny-type run ended with an awful Favre pick in OT, followed by a game losing field goal.
It happened again tonight. Favre, sadly, played terribly, and when the football gods allow Brady to throw 3 picks and win, while Favre basically loses the game at the end...well to hell it with it all!!!!
The Giants deserved to win, and hell, even the cheaters did. I consider the Chargers to be enablers. All they do is give games to the Hatriots, just as Miami handed them Wes Welker, and Oakland handed them Mo$$, and the 49ers handed them a first round pick, and the refs handed them the Baltimore game, and Goodell handed them a free ride to a 19-0 season when he should've given them a version of the NCAA death penalty (not to mention stripped their 3 previous super bowl wins, which I'm so sure were won fair and square).
Even the fates have made it incredibly easy on the cheaters. Their playoff run will have consisted of 2 #5 seeds, and a #3 seed with the worst coach in the playoffs.
My one consolation is that I did not have to experience the "gauntlet of pain." I did not have to see them beat Pittsburgh, Indy and Green Bay on their way to their asterisk.
My super bowl pick: Cheaters 45, Giants 6
See you next year on the NFL thread. God help us all its gotta be better than this!!!!

Super Bowl 42 (OH WHAT A NIGHT!):
NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS 17
CHEATERS 14
In Nelson voice: haha!![]()
Truly, in the end, everything I went through as a football fan, and devoted Patriot hater during this season was worth it. Oh man it was SO worth it!
Those classless cheaters came SO CLOSE to achieving their undeserved dream, only to have it torn away from them in the final moments. Those bastards got what they deserved. Now, in the annals of history, the 2007 Patriots will be remembered as the team that was revealed to be cheaters, and the team that CHOKED with history just minutes away! I am BEAMING, and will be doing so all offseason.
Backtracking, this game was easily the least anticipated super bowl for me ever. I watched barely any of the tv hype. I couldn't take the nauseating praise of the cheaters, the lunacy of proclaiming them the greatest team of all time.
The game itself mostly was playing out as expected. The Patriots were having the game handed to them as usual. The Giants were playing real physical, and were knocking Brady around like a rag doll, but they kept making all these little mistakes to keep them from owning it. Steve Smith handed the Pats an int. Some dope tackles Kevin Faulk forward on a 3rd down. Antonio Pierce decides to interfere with Moss rather than turn around and make an int. Manning overthrows a wide open Plaxico. Corey Webster gives Moss the easiest TD ever. That one idiot doesn't get off the field in time on a punt.
So when Brady leads that late drive, throwing to receivers who were suddenly so wide open that Stevie Wonder coulda connected with em, I knew it was over. All I'd have was the increased knowledge that everything this team has done has been fraudulent. (God how I love that Spygate won't go away!!!)
Then, my whole outlook on the NFL, on karma, on fairness, on EVERYTHING changed in the last 2 minutes. Eli Manning, who I am now madly in love with (platonically), leads the greatest drive in the history of the super bowl. Yeah, that Montana one against the Bengals is famous, but Joe wasn't denying immortality to a group of assholes.
I never dreamed Eli had it in him. That incredible near sack-turned-long pass may go down as the greatest play in super bowl history. I don't know how Eli got away. I don't know how Tyree caught that. That was the first moment I began to believe. Then Steve Smith redeems himself with that good catch and run. Then Eli hits Plax and I exploded in guarded cheers.
Here was me from that moment, til the 4th down pass failed: I was kneeling down in front of the tv, rapidly muttering "ohmygodohmygodohmygod...."
And when it ended, I literally was dancing up and down, in my "I Hate The New England Patriots" t-shirt, pumping my fists and stomping on the Pats graves!!!![]()
I've never been a Giants fan. I used to think Coughlin was a dick, and that Eli was a spolied punk. Well, kinda changin my tune. I am forever in their debt for what they did tonight. They did something great for not just themselves, but for the NFL.
They ended the dark reign of the cheaters.
They have essentially ended the asinine talk of Beliprick as the greatest coach ever. Nope. Noll never lost a super bowl. Walsh never lost a super bowl. Lombardi lost one playoff game EVER! The cheating, which could not save them today, will not be forgotten now. Arlen Spector's after him now. We've now learned they cheated to beat the Rams, and that was the one super bowl I had been willing to still give them! This offseason is gonna bring the hammer down on him, and i LOVE it!
The Giants win ends the talk of Brady as the greatest QB ever. HA! Montana, Aikman, Bradshaw, and Starr never lost a super bowl. And if you really wanna try to make the case that Brady's better than Elway, Favre, Young, Staubach, or Peyton Manning, well go ahead and try. We saw again that any time this guy gets hit he wilts. He's a dandy. He's soft. He always has been. He cannot handle adversity, and as well all know now he's had an unfair advantage. Btw Brady, looks like Plax was generous predicting you'd score 17!![]()
Nice to see classy Bill just leave the field before the game officially ended, and do his usual mumbling press conference. I hate this son of a bitch to his very core, and the fact that the extent of his cheating looks like it may come out makes me elated!
The arrogance of the entire franchise (trademarking 19-0, announcing a championship parade) makes their demise SO sweet!
They'll be a menace still in the years to come (unless Billy gets banned), but no one should ever fear them again.
I must apologize to the football gods. I thought they had abandoned us all this season. And yes, the fraudulent scoring record, and TD pass and catch marks, those won't go away. But this would not have been as sweet a finish had it not played out this way. Green Bay would not have done this. It's ok what went down, cause in the end, the New England Patriots lost the super bowl, lost their undefeated season, and did so in the most excruciating way I could have ever dreamed of!!!
GO GIANTS!!!!

Some Super Bowl Aftermath posts:
I dunno, if the game had been decided by a goal line pick of dandy Brady, that might've been even better.
And obviously if it had been the Packers I would have done my victory march.
I didn't think the Giants truly could win til the Manning Miracle. I tend to be a bit of a pessimist in situations like, well, every Patriot game the last 5 years! I spent most of the game just moping.
Indisputably it is the greatest finish to a super bowl ever! Field goals are not that exciting. Rams-Titans had an amazing finish too, the only one that can compare.
I can't say it's the greatest super bowl I've ever seen. It's way up the list, but it's gonna be hard to ever dislodge Broncos-Packers in my eyes. If Carolina had pulled it out against the cheaters 4 years ago that game may have been #1.
Belichick had one of his video guys sneak into the Rams final practice before that super bowl and tape the thing. And as someone pointed out today, that final practice is so important that even the media isn't allowed in. I have no doubt we've yet to hear the end of this. I suppose the full extent of what this guy's done can never be truly known, cause who knows how much evidence has been destroyed. Those super bowl wins can never be stripped from them unfortunately, but I do think if enough damning evidence comes out there, Belichick could be banned.
Just that one loss nullifies any chance of ranking the Pats with the real dynasties. Not to mention how last year they blew the biggest lead in championship game history. The Packers, Steelers, 49ers and Cowboys are safe.

The tower is a crumblin'!!!!
Now I see a thing on ESPN that these lowlifes taped the Steelers prior to the 2 playoff meetings they had during the dark reign.
The 2001 AFC championship was, like the Ram super bowl, one that I had still been willing to give them. That game they won on a lot of flukey plays. But now we have an explanation for how Kordell Stewart could have imploded so badly after being so great that season.
And as for the 2004 AFC championship game, well, that one really hurt at the time. The Steelers were 15-1, clearly the league's best team. Then all of a sudden the Patriots show up at Heinz Field and can do no wrong. I wonder how they managed to do that...hmmm?
The only super bowl that has yet to be brought into question is the Carolina game. However, the Panthers were also clearly the weakest of the 3 teams they played. Carolina had had one of those Cinderella runs. And they outplayed the Pats. Jake Delhomme outplayed Joe Monta..er, Tom Brady. Only that idiot John Kasay bailed em out. Maybe Billy boy should've gone about his usual cheating with that game too. Hell, maybe he did. Fact is every win in the Belichick era has to be taken with immense skepticism at the very least.
I hope this Walsh guy gets legal protection, enough so that this whole thing blows sky high. I'm like Daniel Plainview, mad with bloodlust! I want that franchise disgraced, the coach gone, those super bowl wins given a great big *asterisk*.

You were only a year off with Brady getting his ligaments ripped. And Kelly Clarkson is back on the market.
