MLB 2020 preview

Okay, time to make some deep analytical predictions about what's gonna happen this season.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Yeah right! You serious?

Let's take a trip back to 2011. The Minnesota Twins have just a disastrous season. The run of success under Ron Gardenhire crashes and burns in a last place, 63-99 fiasco. It's just the worst.

BUT...in the middle of this catastrophe, there is a 50 game stretch, from June 2nd thru July 27th, where the Twins are 32-18. So even in a 99 loss season, there is nearly a third of that season during which the Twins played at a 100 WIN pace.

Even in the 103 loss 2016 season there was a 33 game burst where the Twins were 21-12, again a more than 100 win pace.

The point is, baseball is not meant for short seasons. Over 162 games you can feel pretty sure that you probably have the actual best teams in the playoffs. But 60 games? The fact is there is no possible way to know how things might shake out.

I think the Twins will be very good. Had we had a full season I was definitely going to pick them to win the Central. And they still very well may.

They are undoubtedly helped by having such a large part of their schedule against the Royals and Tigers, plus facing the NL central which isn't too imposing.

They will get almost nothing from Michael Pineda, who still has to serve the rest of his suspension, but this delay means Rich Hill will be ready to go right into the rotation. The pitching staff should be a genuine strength.

We have already had another Byron Buxton injury scare. Hey, injured is his natural state.
Miguel Sano had to deal with COVID but is back.
The Bomba Squad should be very powerful again.

Nobody will have fans in the stands. This will likely have no effect on the Rays or Marlins. I think the no fans thing will be more of a factor in the NFL.
Toronto doesn't even get to play in Canada, cause the Canadian govt wisely does not trust having travelers from the US flying in all the time.

It's barely going to be a season at all. It will never feel RIGHT. But it's better than nothing.

What if the Twins somehow won the World Series in this shortened season? It would feel weird.
But what if they don't get in the playoffs at all? I feel like you could kind of shrug it off.
The stakes aren't that high.

So what the hell, let's pick some shit after all.

AL Division champs: Twins, Yankees, Athletics.
Wild cards: White Sox, Rays

NL Division champs: Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers
Wild cards: Cardinals, Padres

World Series: C'mon it's 2020, the year of eternal hell. You know damn well it's gonna be the Yankees winning it all. They'll beat the Dodgers. But hey, at least those horrible fans won't get a parade.
