Seriously. That happened. The Gophers lost, to Bowling Green, a team they were 31 point favorites over. At home. On Homecoming. It is the most embarrassing moment of the PJ Fleck era.

And he deserves the humiliation.

A disgrace like this falls squarely on the coaching. Fleck did not take this game seriously. As we have so often seen with him, his team played down to the level of competition. Not acceptable. If you want to be taken seriously, your team needs to roll a scrub like Bowling Green.

The offense was asleep from the start. The OL got worked. Tanner Morgan was atrocious. The run game sputtered. Key mistakes killed drives. They led just 3-0 midway through the 2nd quarter.

But this defense just shut out Colorado. All Fleck had to do was not do something moronic to spark the underdogs.

So naturally he went for a 4th and 1 around his own 30. And called one of those idiots plays that requires the back to gain 4 or 5 yards. And it was a tackle for loss. Moments later BG was in the endzone and in the lead.

The frauds were booed off the field at halftime. But the 2nd half opened with a touchdown drive and so you figured that from here the Gophers would ease their way to a win.

Nope. This was their last scoring of the day. The offense went back to sputtering. Their last scoring chance of the day ended when Fleck chose to try a 52 yard field goal, which was missed, and yet again gave BG a shorter field to work with. They hit a couple big plays and scored again to re-take the lead.

The game was almost finished on BG's next series. The Gophers roughed the punter (first down). They somehow had an illegal formation on a missed field goal (first down). BG got it in the redzone, but then their receiver fumbled the ball and a seemingly inevitable 21-10 game was back in play.

More Fleck failure followed, as the Gophers offense showed zero urgency, and needed 4 minutes to travel just about 30 yards. Then Fleck PUNTS on 4th down with barely 3 minutes left. Unreal.

They get the ball back, after a muffed punt that somehow the Gophers recovered. No matter. Morgan was picked off immediately. Then Morgan was picked off again with like 20 seconds left. 

And one of the most humiliating losses in Gopher football history was complete. And this wasn't like a big upset where the underdogs rose up and played a great game. Bowling Green was bad. The Gophers were worse.

PJ Fleck deserves this. I am so tired of his whole act. I am so tired of how people act like he is Nick Saban cause he won 11 games against a cupcake schedule, and beat a disinterested Auburn team in a 2nd tier bowl game. If you can't tell that 2019 was a complete fluke you need to look harder. His teams have been bad before 2019, and bad since. And now they have hit bottom. No matter what happens the rest of this season it is a failed season. You won't beat Iowa. You won't beat Wisconsin. You won't win a division. You will be in another mediocre bowl game at best. And we will still have to keep hearing Fleck's row the boat BS.
