Vikings preseason finale
Broncos 23
Vikings 13
Okay, if you believe in signs this could be a good one.
We lost power during a storm last night during the Vikings game. I ended up only SEEING the first quarter and the final minutes. But the only other time I recall ever losing power during a Vikings game was...1998, also in the preseason. Fwiw I recall also having a power outage at my job during a different preseason game that year.
So basically we're about to see a season as good as 1998.
Anyway, since I was unable to actually see most of this game I was at the mercy of the radio broadcast and my social media feeds.
Once again the QB battle (as it were) was the headliner. With Nick Mullens in tow and inactive, making him the backup for sure, it was time for one last audition for Mannion and Mond. Neither distinguished themselves. Again, Mond was marginally better than Mannion, as Mannion took a strip sack, nearly threw a pick six and generally just played poorly. Mond didn't do anything as standout bad, but ran himself into some sacks. The writing is on the wall for these two. Neither will make the 53. Mond may still wind up on the practice squad.
The Vikings sat even more players than last week. Over 30. But if anyone objected to starters not getting playing time they should pay attention to how many injuries were suffered by those who did play. Most were minor, but Bisi Johnson tore his ACL and is done for a second straight season.
We did lose. Second straight winless preseason. I'm not sweating that at all. Nobody should. Much of that can be attributed to the mostly putrid play of the 2 doomed quarterbacks.
I think our draft class looked quite good. Ed Ingram has basically won the starting guard job. Asamoah looked great. Cine should see the field a lot right away.
Many cuts await. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few unexpected names. Obviously with the expanded practice squad a lot of guys will remain in the organization anyway. They'll probably scour the waiver wire for a couple position groups.
