Farewell Case

Case Keenum to the Broncos. Good spot for him. Easier conference, still a proven defense behind him. If he indeed wasn't a Shurmur-led one year wonder he'll have a chance to succeed.

I suspect he was though, and obviously so did the Vikings. That doesn't mean what he did for us in 2017 was irrelevant. The amount of the credit he should get for 14-4 is debatable, but there is no question that had he not stepped in for Bradford and mostly played well we do not have that season.

That run from the Tampa game through the Thanksgiving win at Detroit built the season. Case only had a couple games where he really was more than just a very solid caretaker, but with that defense playing like they did it was all they needed. Basically he was in 2017 what I had once hoped Christian Ponder would be.

But c'mon Case apologists, after that Lions win he did very little the rest of the way. The passing game did very little the last 5 weeks of the regular season, and included in there was his mini-meltdown day at Carolina.

And really, go watch the replay of the Saints game. Most of the significant pass plays that day were the result of our receivers making incredible plays. We were one miracle from spending all off-season lamenting how Case threw that inexcusable pick and how the offense as a whole did nothing after 17-0.

Then we go to Philly, and yes that was a total team breakdown, but once that game got to 21-7 we all knew we had ZERO chance for a Case-led comeback.

We'll always have the Minneapolis Miracle though. It's arguably the greatest moment in Vikings history. But we're still chasing that ultimate moment, and we were not going to ever get there with Keenum.
