The AFC Misery Continues

Patriots 37
Chiefs 31

Is there an entity in sports more consistently disappointing than the AFC?

Everything that happened in that conference this year was just window dressing. It was just rearranging some of the pieces in the latest chapter of the evil empire. So instead of the Jaguars or Steelers or Colts enabling another (NINTH) AFC title it turned out to be the Chiefs.

The Chiefs 1st half on offense was an embarrassment. They made their run in the 2nd half, but as with the Jags last year it was fool's gold.

Nothing was going to stop the Patriots from winning. Not the Chiefs. Certainly not the refs. My god. How have they ever NOT won a super bowl with the breaks they get, with the calls?

Edelman muffs a punt. They say it never touched him. Hogan is given a catch where half the damn ball is on the ground, moving. A Chief defender's arm grazes Brady's upper body(not the head) and it's roughing the passer. After the display in New Orleans today, then this, the league is in an officiating crisis now. Deep down I suspect nobody in the head office cares.

Yet through it all the Chiefs win the game if something called Dee Ford doesn't line up a few inches offsides on a play that, for a split second, had a game ending pick. How fucking hard is it to just line up properly? That unforced mistake cost the Chiefs an AFC title in their dream season. Them and the Saints seemed to be the 2 teams on the magic carpet ride this year, and now both fall a game short of the big game.

There's no way to make it not sound like sour grapes, but I know I speak for the vast majority of NFL fans. We are sick and tired of the Patriots. The NFL rose to the level it has due largely to parity, to the very real belief that any team can win. But parity has been ruined by the Patriots. Only that fanbase can.enjoy this. I suppose just the fact that this will be a large market super bowl won't hurt ratings, but the product suffers cause of this. At least the NFC has variety from year to year. This will be the 10th different franchise to represent the NFC in the last 17 years.

I hope the Rams win. I doubt they will.
