Oscar picks

A little bit of who I think will win vs a little bit of who I would pick. Best Picture: I think Roma is going to win, although I found it largely a boring grind to watch. I liked the other 7 movies all to varying degrees. It would be delicious fun to watch the MAGAts heads explode if Black Panther won. I would pick it. It won't happen though. If Roma doesn't win I guess it would be Green Book. Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron will win this. I would be elated if Spike Lee won. Best Actor: This may be the one that works out best. Christian Bale should win and is the favorite to win. I would be fine if Rami Malek wins too. Best Actress: Glenn Close will win. I could have gone to see The Wife this weekend but honestly the movie doesn't interest me and I just have never liked Close. I'm frankly a little glad that Lady Gaga won't win. I would pick Olivia Colman. Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali will win even though he is NOT at all supporting. But we know how they ...

Fuck Jussie Smollett

I swear to god, there is almost nothing I hate more than stupid motherfuckers who stupidly hand over ammo to the worst people in this country. Now, conservatives all think racism is a myth, homophobia is a myth, hate crimes are a myth. So even if Smollett wasn't a phony they would all either just ignore the attack or deflect onto something else. Just like they refuse to acknowledge that confirmed hate crimes have risen sharply since Putin took over the White House. But Smollett is a phony. He fucked his own life and career, but that's deserved. I don't give a shit about him. I DO give a shit that he has now handed the Nazi right a golden excuse to attack the credibility of basically every Trump hater, every accuser of anything, every minority. Anybody who does damage to the life or death movement to abolish the Trump occupation and the Nazi right, should be drummed out of public life.

Movie roundup

On The Basis Of Sex and RBG: The RBG biopic and the RBG documentary. I liked both(I think Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer deserved some awards consideration), but the doc is overall better and more comprehensive. Roma: Finally hunkered down and watched this on Netflix. Tbh it's a hard film to get through, especially watching it on my phone. The pace is incredibly slow and honestly so little happens it's easy to get bored. The cinematography is great and the acting is fine, but I honestly don't see this as a worthy best picture winner. The Upside: Amazing what toning it down a little does for Kevin Hart. This one has been a deserving hit. It's predictable but all the way charming. Serenity: The twist is already the stuff of legend. I didn't find it laughable necessarily, just that it was a real homerun swing that didn't connect. At all. Stan and Ollie: This one kind of just appeared in theaters with no fanfare at all, but I enjoyed this movie about the latter...

Angry dudebros go after Brie Larson and Captain Marvel

Over the last few days it's become hard to not see the rise of the angry fanboy dudebro. Now, these dipshits are always getting worked up about something. And that something is almost always directly tied to race, or more likely, gender. These are the same people who lost their shit over the Ghostbusters reboot daring to star women, literally everything about The Last Jedi, and most recently the Oscars daring to nominate the black superhero movie for best picture. Among countless other examples. And now they have amassed against Captain Marvel and Brie Larson. Of course this was inevitable. I mean, we only had 20 male led MCU films before the 1st one with a female lead, so clearly men are under attack from feminists who seek to destroy all that we hold dear. And these trash are really going hard after Brie Larson, because while on the press tour she made a comment about hoping to see more diversity from the critics and journalists who cover such things and write about film in ge...

Trump's Wall

The border wall. Which was not only going to get built, but which Mexico was going to pay for. Trump finally got it done. What an accomplishment. Oh, sure, if you wanna get super nitpicky you could point out that Mexico is not paying a cent for the wall, not now, not ever. You could bring up the fact Trump spent 2 years doing nothing about the wall, only to suddenly scream about a national emergency the second the dems officially took back the house. You could mention that a deal was in place to fund the govt and provide money for the wall, which Trump agreed to sign....until he got blowback from Slanthead Hannity, the drug addled gasbag Limbaugh, and Coultergeist. He then rejected the deal and shut the govt down for over a month. And if you really want to get technical, you could point out that after all this showboating that the deal now signed gives a lot LESS money for the wall. But the orange dictator has a plan. He's called a national emergency so he can take money from...

No Moore Maya

The Lynx will really need a lot of that odd year magic to win a title this year, now that Maya Moore has indeed decided to sit out the year(and deep down I suspect, maybe for good). It was already going to be a transition year, with Whalen retired and likely without Brunson too. Now the Lynx are likely down 3 of the original core 4. They won't even have my lady Ceci right away. Fowles remains, and Augustus is back again. But it will be a very different season. I figured the Moore rumors were true when they signed Karima Christmas-Kelly, who plays the same position. And they might be getting Damiras Dantas back. Moore's contract comes off the books for the season, so they have that extra money to spend too. And they have their highest draft pick since Moore, so hopefully they grab somebody really good there.

Shitty NFL season ends shittily

Patriots 13 Rams 3 Gawd what a turd. Of a game. Of a season. Of an era. I watched this game in total apathy. Never once was captivated. Never once was entertained. The game had a certain bizarre, I guess, appeal. I am not at all opposed to defensive football, but this was not an example of a good defensive football game. The Rams scored THREE FUCKING POINTS. THREE! What an embarrassment. Jared Goff played without question one of the worst games ever by a quarterback in a super bowl. He made our buddy Kirk in a few of those primetime games this year look like Peyton Manning. The guy looked amateurish. Sean McVay, who has been annointed as the unquestioned genius wunderkind, had a dismal gameplan, which inexplicably ignored Todd Gurley most of the game. What is it with Rams coaches ignoring their star running backs in super bowls against the Patriots? Mike Martz did the same thing 17 years ago. There was never a point in the game where it looked like the Rams had any chance to score....

Super Sunday. Is it over yet?

There is one absolute positive to this year's lead-up to the super bowl: It's been easy to ignore. Last year all I wanted to do was forget about the.Patriots and that team that merc'd us in the NFC title game. But the game was here, so that was impossible. I am not at all enthusiastic about this game today. The Patriots suck the joy out of everything they touch. I'm fine with the Rams, and I've enjoyed watching Saints fans make complete fools of themselves for the last 2 weeks, but I know what's coming. There is one unavoidable reality here. There is no way the NFL will let the Rams beat the Patriots today. They will not let a team that, at least to many, is an illegitimate NFC champ. They want that controversy to disappear. They do not want the team that benefitted from that call to be crowned a champion. And after all this league has done to slurp Brady over the years, do you really think they're going to let him lose back to back super bowls, and fall...
