Oscar picks

A little bit of who I think will win vs a little bit of who I would pick.

Best Picture: I think Roma is going to win, although I found it largely a boring grind to watch. I liked the other 7 movies all to varying degrees. It would be delicious fun to watch the MAGAts heads explode if Black Panther won. I would pick it. It won't happen though. If Roma doesn't win I guess it would be Green Book.

Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron will win this. I would be elated if Spike Lee won.

Best Actor: This may be the one that works out best. Christian Bale should win and is the favorite to win. I would be fine if Rami Malek wins too.

Best Actress: Glenn Close will win. I could have gone to see The Wife this weekend but honestly the movie doesn't interest me and I just have never liked Close. I'm frankly a little glad that Lady Gaga won't win. I would pick Olivia Colman.

Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali will win even though he is NOT at all supporting. But we know how they fudge that definition. It IS the best performance of that group.

Best Supporting Actress: Regina King will win, even if I'm still a little puzzled at how much of a foregone conclusion it is. She's good in the film, it just didn't scream runaway Oscar winner to me. I would split the trophy between Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.

I'm guessing screenplays go to Green Book and A Star Is Born, though it should be The Favourite and Blackkklansman.

Infinity War better win for visual effects.

  1. I would love to see Black Panther win, but I don’t know if the academy will vote for a comic book movie to win it all. I think Bale will win and people will be shocked he has a British accent.
I also think SpiderMan: Into the Spiderverse will win.

  2. You were pretty accurate in your picks. I haven’t seen Green Book and it sounds like the director and writer are not good people. And I somehow missed Spike Lee walking out when Green Book was announced.
