Shitty NFL season ends shittily
Patriots 13
Rams 3
Gawd what a turd. Of a game. Of a season. Of an era.
I watched this game in total apathy. Never once was captivated. Never once was entertained. The game had a certain bizarre, I guess, appeal. I am not at all opposed to defensive football, but this was not an example of a good defensive football game.
The Rams scored THREE FUCKING POINTS. THREE! What an embarrassment. Jared Goff played without question one of the worst games ever by a quarterback in a super bowl. He made our buddy Kirk in a few of those primetime games this year look like Peyton Manning. The guy looked amateurish. Sean McVay, who has been annointed as the unquestioned genius wunderkind, had a dismal gameplan, which inexplicably ignored Todd Gurley most of the game. What is it with Rams coaches ignoring their star running backs in super bowls against the Patriots? Mike Martz did the same thing 17 years ago. There was never a point in the game where it looked like the Rams had any chance to score. I was not alive for those old Vikings super bowl performances, but I imagine this is what it was like to see them. It was a near total non-effort on the biggest stage.
Tom Brady, once again, is the luckiest asshole who has ever existed, at least in the world of sports. He played a terrible game tonight. Awful throws. Skittish feet. But once again it didn't matter, cause the Rams did just enough refusing to cover Julian Edelman, they got just enough big runs(that last series was especially humiliating for the Rams run d), the refs gave just enough help. He faces zero consequences for his horrible play. He wins #6. There is no god.
I'm just tired of the whole damn thing. Until this nightmare ends I'm only watching NFC football from now on. I don't care if it's an AFC game involving just 2 random teams. Not watching. The NFL is being reduced to what MLB was back when the Yankees won every damn world series. I can enjoy the game, but once the postseason arrives that's all over.
The super bowl used to be a fun event. Now it just makes me either mad, annoyed, or disinterested. And to have this result after a regular season as frustrating as it was from a Vikings standpoint... man.
I wonder how much longer the NFL can withstand this before it starts to really lose fans. Parity is a huge part of why the NFL blew up as big as it did. But that's gone now. This Patriots thing is good for only one fanbase. It's especially bad for the 14 other AFC fanbases.
It's a weird paradox. My Vikings fandom has stayed as feverish as ever, but my interest in the NFL overall has really plummeted in this decade. The product isn't that good anymore. The quality of coverage is freaking awful now.
The fact that the games all matter, in theory anyway, maintains interest to a degree, but if anything this Patriots team did what a lot of NBA team have done. They treated the regular season like a big joke. I believed, like an idiot, that this year could have been different, that maybe this was finally the end. Instead it becomes just the latest chapter in a nightmare story that never ever ends.
The only good thing about the Patriots winning is that Cordarrelle Patterson gets a ring. Although I wish he was still in purple.
