Thoughts from a Skol-free Sunday

The first Sunday of the NFL season that was Vikings-free should have been relaxing. But it really wasn't.

We got one positive. In one of the most incompetently played games on both sides I have ever seen, the Chargers beat the Bears when the Bears shanked a fairly short field goal at the gun. Trubisky was awful, yet Matt Nagy stuck with him stubbornly. If he had switched QBs they probably win by 20. This pretty much knocks the Bears from contention.

The Lions won, with some more makeup calls from the refs helping(that 1st Lions TD was a forward pass not a lateral, and the Giants were robbed of a late TD on a picked up flag).

I didn't expect much if any help for the Vikings today, since most games looked like mismatches in favor of other NFC contenders. And indeed, the Rams, Seahawks and Saints all had pretty easy times with bad opponents. The 49ers destroyed Carolina, which could be either good or bad.

The Hatriots had another easy win where both their opponent's unforced mistakes and blatantly biased officiating removed any chance of losing. At least those assholes have legit teams the next few weeks, so maybe someone can hang a loss on these fuckers and keep them from 19-0.

The Sunday night game really killed the day completely. The Packers beat the Chiefs. It felt like a greatest hits package of everything that pisces me off.about that franchise and that quarterback and how they are treated. You had the blatantly wrong RTP call on the Chiefs. You had the whole Packers sideline coming onto the field to do a celebration, with no flag thrown. You had the usual refusal to ever call offensive holding. You had a Rodgers hail mary(this one in the redzone) that is horribly defended and becomes an undeserved touchdown. You had a screen pass to a back that goes 70 yards and all the announcers wanna do is talk about Rodgers even though he did nothing on the play. You had the Chiefs turning the ball over deep in their own end. You had the Packers benefitting all night from facing Matt Moore and not Patrick Mahomes. And you had Andy Reid deciding to punt the ball away on 4th and short with 5 minutes left. Everybody knew the Chiefs would never see the ball again, and they didn't. They just gave up.

And now we know the Chiefs won't play like this next week, so the Vikings will not get the benefit of all this shit(are they really gonna lose FOUR straight home games?). As good as this Vikings team is, I feel like our only chance is to be a wild card. Nothing is ever going to go against the Packers this year.

Until they play the Saints in January. Drew Brees would dissect those fuckers.
