Checking in on the local sports scene
Vikings
Everson Griffin opted out of his contract, but Zimmer made it pretty clear that he expects Sack Daddy back on a new deal. If true, he must be taking a rather significant hometown discount, cause I think he certainly could get a big deal elsewhere. If that pans out, Griffen is in the all time cool book.
Spielman has said flat out that Diggs won't be traded, although tbh you always have to remember that a GM's job is basically to lie to the public. I think Diggs stays unless someone comes to the Vikings with an extraordinary deal.
Twins
Spring training games are well underway. Twins are winning most of the time, although we are still so early that the lineups are full of guys who will be no factor during the regular season. Still, just great having the grand game back.
Wild
Trade deadline came and went. Jason Zucker was dealt shortly before the deadline. Parise almost went at the deadline. Through it all the team has been playing alright. They're only a couple points out of the playoffs atm, with one of the league's easier schedules remaining. If nothing else they should be playing meaningful games til the end.
Wolves
The win over Judas Butler and Miami the other night was satisfying, no doubt. Of course around that you have a team still piling up losses, a team that again is without KAT due to a mysteriously lingering injury, a team that ludicrously sat Russell for "rest" the other day and was rightfully fined for it.
Lynx
The Maroon Mamba has arrived! Rachel Banham was acquired for a draft pick. Now, nobody is expecting history to repeat itself here, with an ex-Gopher coming over from Connecticut. She's also not even the same kind of player as Whalen. She's more of a shoot first player rather than a distributor.
Gopher mens basketball
The team has collapsed in 3 recent home games, 2 of them in particularly epic fashion, and are all but finished as far as tournament hopes. It's time to just send Pitino on his way. He has had 7 seasons, and has 1 tournament win and only 1 winning season in the Big Ten. He can't recruit, as the big in-state guys always leave. And his in-game coaching mostly stinks, as has been on full display in these recent chokes.
