Divisional Playoff Round recap
Saturday:
[Chiefs 27, Jaguars 20]
The plucky Jaguars kept this thing competitive. Obviously the biggest story from this game was the injury to Patrick Mahomes. Like everyone else, when he first got hurt I thought the Chiefs were screwed, cause there was still so much game left and I believe they only led by 10 at the time. But Chad Henne, as he did against Cleveland 2 years ago, filled in capably. He led a 98 yard touchdown drive. Mahomes got back in and was noticeably diminished, but the Chiefs defense did their part and never really let the Jags get going. So the Chiefs go to their fifth straight AFC championship game.
[Eagles 38, Giants 7]
Hey, that's a familiar score.
Well, as if we needed any more proof that last week's result was mostly due to how pitiful the Vikings defense was, we sure for it. This was complete domination. 28-0 first half. Eagles offense was a machine. Giants offense was inept. I spent the 2nd half doing other things.
Sunday:
[Bengals 27, Bills 10]
Well, there goes my super bowl pick. All year long I had the Bills winning it all, and I was always convinced that no team would go to Buffalo in January and win. Especially not in a snow game. But a funny thing happened: Joe Burrow actually played a great playoff game. No Burrow Bullshit needed this time. Cincy's offense was unstoppable early. And their defense was also dominant. Only 10 points for that Bills offense is astonishing, especially since no turnovers were involved until very late. Stefon Diggs did some diva bullshit as well.
It looks like the Bengals may be that exceedingly rare super bowl loser to return the next year, cause they already have beaten the Chiefs 3 straight times and now Mahomes is hobbled.
[49ers 19, Cowboys 12]
The best game of the weekend, and maybe the whole (so far very disappointing) postseason. A good, quality defensive game. The 49ers forced Dak Prescott into a couple big mistakes. And Brock Purdy played a clean game. The 49ers got a few big plays, particularly the George Kittle juggling catch. And Robbie Gould was money on the field goals.
So we will see if they are able to take this balanced team to Philly and win. I hope so. At this point I am Team Anybody But Philadelphia.
