Lindsay exits Target Center (probably) a winner

Ideally Lindsay Whalen would get to bow out of the WNBA in another finals and another celebration. I don't quite think that's going to happen, but her regular season career could not have had a much better ending.

Tonight's game didn't really MEAN anything for the Lynx, since they were locked into the 7th seed no matter what, and during the game the outcome also became meaningless for Washington. But it was still a hell of a game, and the 4th quarter was classic Lynx. Classic Whalen.

The Lynx shot well enough to keep it close into the 4th quarter, and then down 69-67, Lindsay drained a 3 to give them the lead. That was the spark that ignited a classic Lynx 4th quarter, the kind they basically haven't been able to muster really all year. They pulled away, with slick offense and tough defense. Lindsay got a well deserved standing ovation when she left the game, and the Lynx won.

And the postgame ceremony was cool, capped by Lindsay sort of rambling all over the place.

The Lynx now turn to the playoffs. Single elimination road game at LA, then if they're able to win that(possible but not probable), another single elimination game, probably at Washington. Then if they somehow pull that off their reward is a series with a Seattle team that has made them look very bad twice recently, and are clearly the best team in the league.

It's not gonna happen, but at least we got this great sendoff.

  1. All things considered the game was a great way to send her off. Especially since she had connections to Mike Thibault, and I thought it was nice of him that he was wearing a University of Minnesota tie.
There may have been a few tears shed when she left the court for the final time last night. 💙💚
