The last day of democracy?

It's election eve, which has never before been a day I even really noticed. Election DAY, sure. But this is the 1st time that an election is quite simply going to mean the difference between the first chance we have had to roll back the disaster of two years ago, and what will be the moment that ends any semblance of democracy in this country.

If the Republicans keep control of Congress tomorrow, it's over. Finished. Done. There will be no more elections, at least not ones that aren't there just for show. The Kavanaugh court can officially start its systematic teardown of every rights we have. Voter suppression will only get worse. More tax cuts for the billionaires will be passed, and this time the GOP demons will combine it with the gutting of social security and Medicare. There will quite literally be nothing left to stop them short of an all out civil war.

I gotta say, I'm not at all confident. Oh sure, the polls are favorable. The early voting numbers are off the charts, and logic tells you that favors Democrats. Trump is hugely unpopular. The GOP is so bankrupt as far as policies go that all they're doing is talking about the fucking caravan. Supposedly Trump is doing a great job, and has the economy booming, and is doing all these great things, yet nobody wants to run on these things....probably cause if they do they will have to face the fact that Trump has been every bit the catastrophe we all expected.

Plus there's all the right wing violence of late. These people know Trump is a  disaster, yet they'll all go out there and vote for the Trump sycophants. There was never a scenario where 2016 Trump voters turned on him. Oh sure, you see people SAY they're doing this occasionally, but I don't buy it. Now, I also don't buy it that Clinton voters have suddenly flipped either. We all know #WalkAway is a Russian troll creation.

Polls say it. Logic says it. Trends say it. Results from the past say it. Everything points to a good result for the side of good. But that panic and anxiety I felt on election night 2016 has never gone away. I will never be confident in an election again.

And given the widespread voter suppression taking place out in the open in Georgia, North Dakota,  Tennessee and other states, plus the certainty that we're gonna have another unchecked round of Russian hacking, I know that some shit's going to go bad. And don't even get me started on the likelihood that some of these insane Trumpers are going to show up at voting places looking to start some more violence (I saw Trump basically tweet them his permission today).

I hope I'm wrong. I hope we see the biggest god damn blue wave since the end of Deep Impact. I hope that cocksucker Trump wakes up Wednesday without complete control of a country he wants to destroy. Basically I just hope we still HAVE a country after this.

  1. My stomach is in knots right now. Until 2016 I didn’t know there was so many stupid, ignorant, racist Americans. If the RWNJ stay in control, do we also start down the path of Handsmaid’s Tale?
I’m hoping there’s a blue wave but my confidence is very shaky.
