Karma in the Bayou
Rams 26
Saints 23
You know, for as ultimately depressing as the Vikings season was, these NFC playoffs were a wonderful salvation. Bears, Eagles, now Saints. All had their fucking hearts ripped out, leaving those dickish fanbases crying.
But nothing tops THIS. 9 years almost to the day after the Saints robbed us of our destiny in that same building, it was the Saints themselves being robbed. And yes, they were robbed. That non call was appalling. But FUCK EM! For 9 years we've had to hear those bayou bitches taunting us with "you can't blame the refs" and even calling last year's beauty the "meaningless miracle."
Those fans deserve the pain. Ohhh they deserve so much fucking pain. Cry into your fucking gumbo, you shitheads.
There was some eerie parallels going on in this game to the 2009 game. I expected Jared Goff to throw across his body at any moment. But instead, it was Drew Brees, throwing the key pick on the last throw of what had to that point been a charmed season. Just like what happened to Favre. And when the Rams got into field goal range, they did it, from almost the exact same distance Ryan Longwell could have kicked it from. Seriously, that had to have been the most clutch 50+ yard field.goal ever. If that's missed, now the Saints have a short field with only a FG needed to win.
I of course expected each of Zeurlein's last 2 kicks to miss. It had seemed such a charmed season for the Saints. Go back to early in the season when Justin Tucker shanked that PAT, or when the Browns missed all those kicks. Or Adam Thielen's fumble. It seemed the football gods were going to spend all season making up for the Minneapolis Miracle. Drew Brees setting records everywhere. Home field advantage in a stadium they hadn't lost a playoff game since 1992. A Rams team that seemed at times woefully unprepared for the crowd noise. Todd Gurley mysteriously sidelined. It was all lined up so perfectly for them.
And they blew it. The Saints fans can hypocritically whine about the refs all they want to. That game could have been 21-0 early if the Saints offense cashed in. The Rams really gutted this thing out. I haven't been much of a believer in this Rams club til now. I did not see them capable of going in there and winning, especially after the way the Bears and Eagles recently toyed with them. But that fake.punt totally swung the game. They've come a long way since a year ago when they tanked week 17 to avoid the Vikings then got beat by the Falcons.
They'll be an easy team to root for in 2 weeks, and unless the Chiefs snap out of the coma they appear to be in as I write this, I'll HAVE to root for them.
And the Saints and all their fans can watch the super bowl, and enjoy the karma that just smacked you all in the face.
I was extremely gleeful about NO losing. I despise Sean Payton. And I wanted to throat punch Joe Buck. I hope the Rams beat the Pats, but the league will probably guarantee that won’t happen.
