Oscar nominations: Holy shit have the MAGAts been triggered by the Wakandans!
The Oscar nominations are out. And overwhelmingly the biggest talker is that Black Panther is the 1st superhero movie ever nominated for best picture.
And holy forking shirt are the MAGAts mad!
Nearly every comment on reddit especially, but also Facebook and even a few tweets I saw, was some sort of whiny bitchfest by people who could not do a worse job of hiding their racism. Accusing the academy of nominating it only for political reasons, which is absurd. BP was one of the best reviewed films of the year in any genre. It was one of the best reviewed superhero movies ever. If all the academy cared about was nominating a "black" film, there were other options out there.
There are obviously some who just think that comic book movies, or action movies, or fantasy, are just inherently lesser and should never be nominated no matter.how good they are. There's no getting through to these people.
Some bitched about previous comic book films like The Dark Knight or Logan or others not being nominated. I agree. A lot of worthy films have been snubbed over the years. But so does that mean that because those films were snubbed, all genre films need to be snubbed for eternity?
But we know it all boils down to pure, raging racism. These people cannot handle anybody who isn't white being recognized or awarded. They don't bother focusing their anger on movies like Bohemian Rhapsody or Vice, which got far more mixed reviews than BP. Wonder why?
Most of these bitter losers are Trumpers anyway, and I thought none of them cared about what liberal socialist Hollywood says anyway? In truth, they absolutely care, and now that after so many years of the Oscar voters being skewed old and white, things have shifted (not for political reasons, but because a wider variety of voters will inevitably vote for a wider variety of films) these angry twerps can't handle it.
In non BP nom stuff, I was really glad to see Spike Lee's comeback take another step. He's one of the filmmakers who made me into a film geek. It's insane that he was not nominated before.
Glad Vice got a lot of recognition, although Sam Rockwell probably took someone's spot. Bale should win in a landslide.
Cool that a Spiderman movie not only got nominated, but will probably win.
Yay Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. Yay Adam Driver.
Glad to see Buster Scruggs get some love.
Infinity War at least gets the VFX nod. Chris Hemsworth would have been my ideal world best supporting actor.
Seems like a lot more major nominees I HAVEN'T seen than most years. I still have to watch Roma. Never saw The Wife (never liked Glenn Close tbh). Never even heard of the Willem Dafoe movie.
I was so happy to see “Black Panther” get a few Oscar nominations, the movie is great. I agree that Logan was snubbed, but move on and be happy that the academy is recognizing movies from that genre.
ReplyDeleteThese are the same people that claim to never watch the award shows but are the first ones on social media that the opening and the speeches are too political. How do you know if you’re not watching, Karen?
And these are probably the same people that are absolutely triggered by Captain Marvel. I made the mistake of reading the comments on a post on Facebook, and wow, are people upset about that movie. My nerdy and political sides are really showing tonight.
