Is it October already?

Must be, cause the Twins just found every way imaginable to blow another game against the Yankees.

That could have gone down as one of the greatest regular season wins in Twins history(and given the overall scarcity of playoff success, wins overall). I don't think I've been excited during a Twins game since at least 2010 as I was when Sano hit that moonshot to go up 11-10.

But they blew it.

Then my heart is pounding in the 9th as they load the bases against Chapman. They tied it up.

But they blew it.

Then they load em in the 10th. Only to have, naturally, the former Twin make one of the plays of the fucking year to save the game.

This game could have been the reversal of so many awful trends. Yeah they beat the Yankees last night, but they've always won the stray game against these assholes. This would have clinched a series win, and would have clinched no worse than a split of the season series, which they haven't managed since 2006, and would have given them a shot at their first season series win since 2001. Now that's gone.

In both the 9th and 10th they had bases loaded. I've never in 30+ years of watching baseball seen anything like this when it comes to constantly not being able to capitalize on bases loaded situations. Now the offense has been very good the last 2 games. But when they load the bases they still can't get it done. They got the sac fly in the 9th, but no more. And if that Kepler ball is another couple feet to the left they at least tie the game again. But we don't ever get that. The BABIP gods have been smiting us for weeks.

And Hicks. Of course. The former Twin curse rears its ugly head again. He hits the 2 run shot off the suddenly unreliable Taylor Rogers, then makes the diving catch. I'm so sick of watching former Twins who never did dick of value for us turn into all stars every time they face us. And every single one does it.

I don't mean to spout hyperbole, but this could have been a franchise-altering win. Whether winning it in blowout fashion(we led 8-2 once long ago) or close, this franchise and god dammit this fanbase needs this. Cause we are once again now stuck in that permanent and justifiable mindset that if we play the Yankees, it's all going to go wrong. Every time. No matter how we get to the end result. No matter what players we have, what lead we have, in the end the Yankees are always going to get the better of us.

And look, the Yankees are probably going to the world series, and unless the Dodgers can stop them, they'll win it. But if the Twins are going to ever break this hex they have to do it in games like this. Fuck, it took the Red Sox 80 years to break their Yankee curse. Most of us don't have another 60 years to wait this out.
