The Kirk Cousins hate train
Who knew that every single bad thing that happens in this world is Kirk Cousins's fault. Wildfires? Kirk set em. Mass shootings? Kirk sold the guns. Stubbed your foot? Yep, that was all Kirk too.
Or you sure would think so given the absurd amount of bile and hatred being thrown his way yet again after the SNF debacle.
I'm so fucking sick of this shit. Kirk Cousins is not infallable. He played poorly in Chicago, no doubt. You can debate how much of it was Kirk, and how much of it was the offensive line But good god, so much of this fucking fanbase has gone nuclear against this guy. After 10 games, most of which have been good to great.
I know that for years the Joe Mauer haters would simply throw out his contract as their sole argument on all things Joe, like mentioning $23 million or $184 million instantly won all debates and instantly would discredit all valid attempts to praise him.
Well now it's assholes saying $28 million or $84 million in every Cousins discussion, as if that ends all debate. GET OVER THE CONTRACT! Kirk Cousins got that contract cause he was one of the rarest things ever: a legitimately good QB hitting the free agent market in his prime. The contract was not the Vikings declaring him the best QB in the game, any more than the Ravens declared Joe Flacco the best QB when he got his top contract after that super bowl run. It was fortuitous timing.
He's a very good QB. I don't give a shit where he ranks exactly. He's not incapable of playing a bad game just because he got paid. And playing a bad game doesn't make him a bust, a liability, and it for sure as fuck does not mean we would be better off if we had kept Case Keenum.
Keenum would have cost less, but the Cousins contract has not kept the Vikings from doing ANYTHING. No matter how much some Vikings fans have deluded themselves into thinking that we magically would have had an elite OL if only we had that extra money to spend(of course none of these geniuses can name a single lineman we would have signed with that money that would have mattered).
And Keenum has been BAD in Denver. He would have been benched, probably, if the Broncos had any plan B worth a damn. The Keenum to Cousins move was 100% the right move then, it is 100% the right move now, and it will be 100% the right move for the next 2 years. This entire franchise's future would look in disarray if we were locked in to another year or 2 of Keenum.
But good luck convincing the idiots.
Minnesota sports fans will always find something to hate. Mauer could have won us multiple World Series and people still would have complained that he made too much money. “He missed a game because he had the stomach flu/his kids were born.” Or he didn’t hit a home run. (I know I joked about it on Twitter.)
ReplyDeleteThe Vikings could be 10-0 and the fans would still find something to hate about Cousins. He’s not throwing the ball enough to this player. He doesn’t have enough touchdowns. If Keenum was still playing for the Vikes, we would have lost to Green Bay and the final score against the Bears would have been a lot worse. He has 10 interceptions this season!!
Cousins probably had a couple of questionable plays in the game but I would have done the same if Mack was running at me. Just saying.
Completely agree. Hating Cousins is the new trend. In 2014 everybody was hating on Matthew Stafford because of his new contract, now he's everyone's favorite "underrated" QB. The other argument that really fucking irritates me every time I hear it is his win loss record versus winning teams. Like you're just gonna bring in his 3 years in Washington with no defense or running game and use that as a stat against Cousins with the Vikings? Not to mention nobody accounts for games where he plays great and the defense finds ways to fuck up like the Rams game last year. Anybody who watched that game knew that Cousins wasn't the problem, in fact he was the only reason we were in the game to begin with.
ReplyDeleteAnytime somebody uses wins and losses as a QB stat they have just lost the argument as far as I'm concerned.
