The media trying to portray Kirk Cousins as an anti-masker.

So the big story today was a Kirk Cousins appearance on either a radio show or podcast, in which he talked about the coronavirus and masks and his approach to the whole thing.

And it became the story of the day, basically.

And it was a total smear campaign against Kirk Cousins.

If you went by any of the headlines on the story or the discussions you would think that Kirk Cousins was an anti-masker like one of these freaks you see at Walmart throwing a temper tantrum because they're expected to wear a mask.

Kirk said nothing of the sort.

The only thing Kirk said that was wrong was him kind of downplaying how useful masks are against spreading COVID. Masks ARE provably helpful. They aren't 100%, but they do help.

But Kirk was not saying that he does not wear masks or he won't wear masks or he's opposed to wearing masks due to some sort of political or religious belief.

Quite the opposite. He said quite specifically that out of respect for other people he will wear masks.

Where's the problem here?

His approach to this is almost the same as mine. He is not spending every day terrified that he will catch COVID. The quote that got highlighted was the "if I die, I die" line. But it's not like Kirk has a death wish. He is just not that afraid for himself. Neither am I. Fact is the only 2 ways to be 100% in the clear are having a vaccine or staying home in a bubble. But it's not practical. Fact is there may NEVER be a vaccine.

But doing the basics (masks, distancing, washing, sanitizing) can get us a long way. And I have no reason to believe Kirk is not doing that. Maybe if more people would the Vikings-Packers game in a week and a half wouldn't be played empty.

Kirk had to call a special media session this afternoon just to do damage control, even though the media was.who did the damage.

I'm so fucking tired of the media trashing Kirk every chance they get. It's bad enough when it's actually football related. But this thing went to a darker, more personal place. This wasn't attacking him for making a bad play, or.being overpaid. This was a full scale attack on his character.

For 2 1/2 years Kirk has been a nonstop whipping boy, even as he put up winning records, big stats, and a big playoff win. Oh, and after taking LESS money to come here, AND take a pay cut this offseason.

Diggs I guess hated him or whatever, but Kirk has also been nothing but a class act and good teammate here.

To be an anti-masker you have to be a fucking asshole completely devoid of empathy, or concern for other people.

Kirk is obviously not that,  but now due to some deliberately taken out of context quotes, and some media pricks with an agenda, the country now thinks that is what Kirk Cousins.

Shameful.
