Minnesota sports check-in

Vikings:
Kubiak officially retired, which is great news. Unlike a lot of Vikings fans I am not unilaterally opposed to an in-house promotion. I feel like the system is sound. The glaring issue was the situational play calling by Kubiak. I have no idea if Klint Kubiak would be better at this, but as long as he doesn't want to run Dalvin straight up the middle 25 times a game he can't be worse.

Twins:
Look, until that 18 game streak is gone I'm done buying in to anything Twins. But I do really like the 2 big signings they made this last week. J.A. Happ is a terrific back of the rotation starter. And Andrelton Simmons is a huge defensive upgrade on a team that can afford to devote a lineup spot to a defensive guy. I would assume the odds of bringing Nelson Cruz back remain strong.

Wild:
Kirill Kaprizov has injected a lot of hope into this stalled franchise. They still seem to be more at the front end of a rebuild, but they at least appear to also be legitimate playoff contenders.

Timberwolves:
How are people still investing in this? Look, I know that the combo of KAT getting injured and then COVID is a huge issue. But this team is just hopeless. Saunders should not be a head coach. Rubio stinks. Russell is just a lot of empty hype. Anthony Edwards puts up a nice stat line on occasion but looks like at best just a guy and not a difference maker. None of these jackasses ever want to play defense. But hey, let's hold onto that top 3 pick. I'm sure THAT will be the pick that turns it all around. 🙄

Lynx:
It looks like Cheryl Reeve is going for it. She signed Kayla McBride, as well as a couple other players whose names I did not instantly recognize. The Lynx were the only team to even look capable of beating Seattle in a playoff game.last year. Can these moves, plus a healthy Fowles close the gap?

Gopher mens basketball:
Y'know they look pretty legit. Certainly enough to be a tournament lock (and there will be a tournament this year). Frankly it's about time Pitino delivered a little on the hype.

Gopher womens basketball:
Another mediocre season. I don't think that Whalen is in over her head. She had the Destiny Pitts issue and then COVID screwing things up. Plus she hardly stepped in to an elite program. There's no reason not to give her more time, but I think the fantasy some had of her duplicating her pro success at the U is gone.
