Total System Failure: The Sequel

The 2018 Twins are a catastrophe. They have neared the end of the season's 2nd month and would already be completely buried in a stacked American League if it weren't for a surprisingly mediocre start by the Indians.

But that won't last. Cleveland will start winning, and there is ZERO reason to believe the Twins will follow suit. This club is a disaster. The pitching staff has held in there. They aren't the thing that is sinking the season. But eventually that dam will break.

This lineup is a horror show, and worse, it's a very boring horror show. Aside from Kepler and Rosario, this whole thing is a joke. Sano is just lost. He's regressed horribly from a limited slugger to a guy who doesn't even slug. I pine for Byron Buxton to become a star. He's a brilliant fielder, and god....if he could just hit .250 he would be one of the most valuable players in the league. But he can't even get CLOSE to .200. And he has zero power. Both these guys are looking like irreversible busts.

And I guess Brian Dozier doesn't wanna get paid this offseason. I know this is kind of his shtick, to have half a hot season and be crap the other half, but I'm sick of it. He is not an elite player anymore.

Beyond that you've got Morrison, who has improved some but still looks destined to put up numbers well below expectations. Garver...whatever. Castro was useless at the plate too. Escobar has mostly been unable to replicate his late 2017 surge. But we kind of know he's not a regular starter. He's a utility guy. Adrianza is starting almost every game and it's PAINFUL. This guy is a borderline major leaguer at best. If Nick Gordon can't be better than THIS then just give up.

I don't know where the hope is here. Joe Mauer is not going to solve this. There's very little major league ready hitting in the minors, unless you totally wanna get crazy and bring up Royce Lewis. I suppose it's possible this collection could all get hot at once again, but some of these guys have an awfully long way to go just to reach a level of competence.

It's insane. This is an era of teams just clobbering homeruns nonstop, and these clowns are averaging less than 1 a game. If we do get someone on base, we can't get him in, cause we can't cluster hits. We don't even TRY stealing bases. Hit and run. Nothing. The way this team is passively watching it's season go down the drain is infuriating.
